  • Blackbirds BIG Dinner

Saw something this evening that I've never seen before. A Blackbird trying to feed his chicks with a MOUSE!
Not great shots as it was 8pm and the light was fading, also taken hand held through the double glazing. Hence ISO 1600 1/15 and 1/20sec shutter.

    Thanks for looking.
    Peter

she looked at me and said "It's official. I hate your camera. It's just so amazing and perfect I want one!"

You must contact a newspaper with these Peter, so unusual, and there could be a few bob in it for you.

With the ground being so dry and hard could be it cannot get some of its normal food.

          Well spotted.

                Wow

That seems really uncharacteristic behaviour. Well done Peter

Great capture never considered this would form any part of a Blackbirds food chain.

We keep a few ex-battery hens and in a BBC documentary about chickens they showed a hen downing a mouse in one gulp. Not seen ours do that trick though

Having seen a Mouse and a Rat in our garden today I can only live in hope that next door's chickens get hold of them

In the mean time I have had to resort to the little blue pellets (sad). We have a personal rule that if we see them on the patio or any of the concrete / patio areas we do that. At the bottom of the garden we consider them wildlife, but not that close
