    Snaar snaps: Down the Lane

    Well, I have given myself a challenge. No more wandering around the vast expanses of the Village: I will now restrict myself to what I find down the half mile farm lane, searching for Details to photograph

    Here we are: The farm lane wanders across the valley towards the horse paddocks and some distant fields... and the dung heap.



    I have to say it does look mighty nice on a sunny autumn day. While down there this lunchtime I chatted with the Gamekeeper for a few minutes. Gamekeeper - now there's a job, better than being stuck in an office on a day like this.

    Still, I suppose working in the office in the midst of winter does have its appeal.

    Anyway.. what do you make of this one? This fellow stands and waits for a rider day after day:



    See...I said it would be Details :-)

      Hmm.. I just hope I can come up with some goods

      And - Next Year's Challenge: A thread composed entirely of pictures taken with the same camera and lens combo, standing in the same spot

          Due to the "cuts" I too have limited myself to mostly local trips around the fields/lanes.....don't think we have anything as glamerous as the dung heap though...lol

          LOVE the muzzle of the horse...I can never resist having a quick tickle of their "soft bits"...have you any more showing a fuller head.

            You're off to a cracking start on this project, Pete. Don't worry about comming up with the goods, I'm sure you'd still get interesting shots if we locked you in a bare room!

              So well, why not get your leg over and make its day? Or at least, give it a carrot. When touring in France, I make a point of carrying a bag of these to feed the odd lonely horse. I draw the line at getting my leg over one though, despite the fact that my father was in the conscript equivalent of the Cossaks in Russia (pre first world war). I like to be on first name terms with a gee gee before I ride one.

                We have quite a few horses in the stables next to the office, and they get walked past our door every day - but I admit I haven't offered any of them a carrot. As to riding one, no, erm I think I will leave that to experts :-)

                Close EXIF observers will see I used the 300mm end of the lens to get the muzzle shot

                    I've already checked the EXIF as I wanted to see whether you'd used the 70-300. I've yet to use mine so it's making my mouth water!

                    PS. The Cossak thing wasn't a particular happy time for him. It was pretty rough and he slept with a knife under his pillow! I reckon a rifle would have been noticed!!

                        The Old Seed Drill

                        The farm lane is the repository for old agricultural machinery. Every farm has a place where old gear comes to a halt. Sometimes its broken, sometimes its out of date. Its almost always rusty. In fact you can judge its usefulness by how far back into the hedge it is...

                        I think stuff is kept "just in case"...

                        Anyway this is an old school seed drill which has probably not seen action for ten years.




                        Slightly further into the hedge is this old monster. I know I've shown him before, but I thought the colours went well :-)
