Duthie Park Winter Gardens (image heavy)

from their website-
"The David Welch Winter Gardens at Duthie Park are one of Europeís largest indoor gardens and Scotlandís third most visited gardens."

I could not find a good definition of "Winter Gardens" but traditionally they have been mixed outdoor/indoor open areas with a number of buildings from which one can escape the inclement weather we get from time to time here in the UK. The space is designed for those wishing to stroll (in the sunshine), to see, and be seen. In other words a good old fashioned Jane Austen style social space. Paths would be paved to avoid muddy shoes in said inclement weather. To me the indoor only nature of the David Welch Winter Gardens does not imply "Winter Gardens" and whilst it is a good walk it is not as open as an outside space would be. This does not detract from their beauty and of course they are accessible in the winter as well as in the summer.

from their website-
"It boasts a beautiful floral paradise all year round, with many rare and exotic plants on show from all around the world. Come and visit the Temperate House, Corridor of Perfumes, Fern House, Victorian Corridor, Japanese Garden, Tropical House and Arid House, which has one of the largest collections of Cacti and Succulents in Britain and the world's only talking cactus!"

If you think of the glass houses at Kew and Cambridge Botanic gardens then you will not be dissapointed with this.

The Arid House. Here you will find "Spike", the talking cactus.

What an amazing and beautiful place, OM. I can only imagine just how many photo ops there might be in those gardens.

Thanks Mark. Its very easy to run off a few hundred snaps. Much more difficult to trim them down to a dozen to put up on the forum. The bonus is they don't jump out of the way when you point a camera at them.
