How to Post Photos?

Can someone please describe in words how I can add photos to a thread other than by embedding Flickr BB codes.

I have successfully uploaded photos to the photo gallery, its the final step of including gallery photos to a forum post that I'm stuck on, e.g. to Foto Fair.

(The backdrop is I'm not a fan of running Java script, or downloading Adobe Flash to view the tutorial, hence my request above.)

Much appreciated.

Re: How to Post Photos?

Go to reply and then click the "go advanced" tab under the txt box.

To the lower RH side of the text box you will now see "My Pics" with a link "open"

Click on the link

A pop up page will appear, across the top are two drop down menus...

The left hand one allows you to choose how the photo or link is displayed in the post, choose "original image"

The right hand one allows you to align the photo in the text, I click "entered" but you may prefer "inline", "left align" or "right align" and so on...

Click the picture and it'll put an HTML string into your text and away you go.

If you want to add text before or after it tends to add the HTML string to the end of wot you've wrote, so you may want to cut and paste the whole thing...

So the HTML looks like this (though I've replaced the first and last [ with {) and you get this:

Re: How to Post Photos?

Thanks kindly Walti, that's really helpful of you.

I note the Gallery restriction is 97.7kB per photo, and a maximum of 600 x 600 pixels.

I had to read the instruction more than once. Does the example you've posted above meet the limitations set by the forum? if so it looks really good given the limit / rules.

Sorry you had trouble with the tutorial, I've just looked at it myself and I see what you mean about the need to download Java and Flash.

I'm not sure about the 97.7kb limit, I always thought it was 512kb and I prefer to resize pics to 864 pixels on the longest edge at 72ppi (12 inches). Let me know if you have further problems.

Thanks John, I didn't want to trouble you further so opened it up as a general 'help me'.

Yes I thought I read the same at 512kb, but having loaded images into the gallery at that 512kb with dimensions of 1280 X 960, and then following the instructions Walti kindly wrote, the message says I have no 'freaking' pictures to load. I've made the gallery public under the title 'Toy Lenses' or similar, definitely has the word Toy in the title anyway.
As a starting point it would be interesting if you can see what I believe I've loaded to the gallery.
Thanks!

Re: How to Post Photos?

The image I posted was exported from Lightroom, using "limit file size to 512k" and limit image width to 1280 pixels (or thereabouts...)

Your image library is there and this image is available amongst the few there:

Re: How to Post Photos?

I have never used the method explained by Walti. This is the method which I have always used here.

I have two tabs open in my browser: one for the thread dialogue box and the other for the photo in my Gallery which I wish to post. In the first tab I enter any text to appear before the photo and then click on the Gallery tab. I click on the photo to be posted and then copy the URL code below the picture. I then return to the other tab and paste the code into the box below the text. I then enter any text required below the photo. If I want to centre the photo on the page I highlight the URL code and click on the Align Centre icon above the text box. It is all much quicker and easier to do than to explain.

To upload my photos to the Gallery I reduce them to 1000 pixels wide or 800 high (for portrait format). I adjust the quality setting to get them to under 512kb. They usually upload without any problems.

Ron

Re: How to Post Photos?

I do the same as Ron said above. Didn't realise there were so many options.

Re: How to Post Photos?

I do the same as Ron. The Gallery does have a file size limit of 512Kb but there does not seem to be a restriction on its dimensions that I have encountered.

Re: How to Post Photos?

I'm obviously doing something wrong using Ron's method of 'two tabs'.

I pasted the URL code of four photos into the 'Toy cameras' open thread, but only the links are visible. No pictures appear until I click on the http link pasted.

Re: How to Post Photos?

Not sure what you did Steve so I looked for one of those images in the gallery to post as an eg for you but couldn't find them for some reason. Anyway here is one of mine. hope it works.

The text I copied came from the box below the image in the gallery. If you click on the image above it shows in the gallery and the copy box is below it.

Re: How to Post Photos?

It would be really great if this information was readily available to newcomers to the forum. Even greater if there was just one way to do it and that was very obvious.

Just being pedantic, after the first use the method I posted means three clicks of the mouse - not at all difficult!
