Re: Oh Well - Shut'ter Shop

An imaginative view of a sadly all-too-common scene.

Re: Oh Well - Shut'ter Shop

Thanks Stephen.

Perhaps I should have shot for a squarer crop.

I see what you mean, but by doing so you would have removed some of the shutter reflections and maybe also removed some of the "meaning".

And of course the window shape was portrait.

Maybe I'll give it another try with a differrent lens and angle - though staying out of the reflection is a challenge.

But as it's become a 'private' correspondence perhaps I've missed the mark, or this group doesn't buy town shots.

Re: Oh Well - Shut'ter Shop

For me it seems too close to the window. I'd have liked to see a bit of the window frame and perhaps some wall in the shot too so that it was a bit more obvious that I was spying on a street scene through a reflection in a window. I dunno really, as gregles said your church shots just generate a wow factor straight away this one just missed for me somehow.

Re: Oh Well - Shut'ter Shop

I think the window frame or wall would give the game away...it was nice to be perplexed if only for a second or two.

Re: Oh Well - Shut'ter Shop

Thanks Greg, Brian and Phill.

'hmm - stick to my churches, well I need to continue developing a style for other subjects too, though I'll be shooting another batch of churches in the next week or so.

Well the brickwork was consciously excluded as it was in partial shadow and a rather muddy brown.

I'll give the idea another try and see what comes out.

A common sight on high streets in Canada also.

Nick I didn't mean stick to churches - I just meant that they were good, i.e a speciality of yours.

Re: Oh Well - Shut'ter Shop

I Like this.
If you might add anything it would be the phone number at the bottom.
I like the fun of one set of words the right way round and the others mirrored.
You shouldn't crop the lamp post.
There is just enough of the shutters to make it really work.
The colours are nice and vibrant if not the subject.
Well spotted.

Re: Oh Well - Shut'ter Shop

I can't see much detail or the whole image without scrolling on this Blackberry but it works for me. I'd like to see a landscape version with more shops in the reflection.
