Is there an analogy between my little electric car/Andys Land Rover and Olympus/Canon????

There is a trade off in size/mileage and size/quality???????????????.

Certainly in my recent post a certain difference in cost...……….

Yes mine does if you don't handle it properly... Bit of a powerful engine, and needs to be taken care of. Bit like Oly cameras...…………….

Analogy continues, it not a super car, but is really good for the price/spec

The whole point of the never-ending use of technology is to allow people less skilled to achieve the same or in many cases better results.
A couple of years ago was the 50th anniversary of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year show at the Natural History Museum in London, and they had a rolling show of the top images of each of the previous 50 years. Not surprisingly the quality and sophistication of the images rose steadily to the ridiculous current heights, but there were a few BIFs from the early years.

Some of them were even in focus

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

This is my only posted comment about the EMIX, as I call it.

IMVHO, it's a great monstrous ugly looking brick of a thing...and....
I absolutely LOVE one.

Who do we think we are all kidding when we say...

'No,no,no... it's not for me..it's too expensive...it's too big, it's too heavy, it's too this, it's too that, it's against the M4/3 ethos, etc, etc.

What a fabulous 'toy' just to sit and look at and play with now and again, can you just image trying to get your head around the menu setup

C'mon lads fess-up....you'd all love one as well... if you are honest.

It's only the £'s that will prevents me from acquiring one.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I'd buy a Nikon Z6 before I bought an E-M1x. You'd even get a free 24-70 f4 lens and change.

It would be interesting to see a side by side size, weight and image comparison between an E-M1x plus 300mm and a Nikon Z6 and equivalent Nikon lens. Oh and a price comparison too, not that I'll be buying either though.

Ah Mark an RX8 yes a lovely car with an intriguing rotary engine. I always thought that was a great concept. I considered one myself when my son had a GT86 but never had the courage. Practicalities seemed to win the day so I got a Golf

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Why is weight such a big issue? I like the heft of a solid camera, the heavier it is the more value I feel I'm getting. If I was to get tiered after a day on the street, I'd get the wife to carry it for a bit - keeping a keen eye on her, of course, don't want it getting bumped.

The GT86 is a lovely looking car, but slightly underpowered. Would be a great cruising car as far as I can tell...……….

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I agree with you Mark it was a little underpowered but still enough to have lots of fun with. The handlability was great if you knew what you were doing, probably good it was a bit down on power. Anyway my Golf seems pretty glued to the road so much better for an old fogey like me.....?

To a point, I'd agree, but the quality I can get from the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro is seriously impressive. I'd say it requires more post-processing and of course a 'real' system camera handles better and has more latitude, but given the right circumstances, I can get very impressive results with these phones.

Here is an example (shot from RAW and post-processed in Lightroom):

And a close-up:

Haha, this thread is beginning to wander a touch!

The Toyota GT86 does remind me a lot of my old (1996 model year) Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC - that was one helluva car

In defence of the E-M1x, these two cameras are not aimed at the same buyers. Lens bulk is the big differentiator. If you need to travel light and you need a selection of lenses, the Nikon is a non-starter.
