Lincolnshire and the Lake District
Over the next 6 weeks or so, I’ll be in Lincolnshire for a couple of days, and a long weekend in the lakes with the family.
I reckon I will be able to get out for one sunrise in lincs, and a sunrise plus a sunset in the lakes. I’m starting to look for easy access locations as time will be limited, any tips greatly appreciated! Staying near Sleaford and Ambleside. Ideally would need to be within an hours drive from base really. For the lakes I’m thinking Derwent water offers good choices, but another option would be good too. For lincs I have no idea ![]() Thanks |

Re: Lincolnshire and the Lake District
Woodhall Spa in Lincs. is an attractive and interesting place, and the 'Kinema in the Woods' is a 'must'.

Re: Lincolnshire and the Lake District
Lincoln Cathedral and Castle are also next to each other with nearby parking. Be advised that a ticket covering both is around £13 these days.
If you are returning then an 'oap' years ticket in the cathedral is about £6 covers any number of entries. Further away you could visit the humber bridge/nature reserve(next to it) and far ings nature reserve (another 3/4 mile). You can park next to the bridge for free (in Barton on Humber). David |

Re: Lincolnshire and the Lake District
Bracebridge Church on Brant Road in Lincoln is older than Lincoln Cathedral, it might be worth a visit to see some Saxon architecture (I think I remember that from my enforced visits it to it when but a lad)
There is also some quaint narrow river between the Brayford Pool and the High Bridge which has some half timbered building on the bridge, could be worth a picture or two. While in the Cathedral district it is worth while wandering around the streets eg Bailgate to the old Roman arch (Newpport Arch) that has suffered from too high vehicles trying to get through it. The locals seem to be able to rebuild it quite well.

Blea tarn, Rydal water and Grasmere are closer to Ambleside and worth a visit.

Re: Lincolnshire and the Lake District
However back in Lincoln a walk from the High Bridge through the Stone Bow along High Street, then up the Straight, Steep Hill to the Castle and Cathedral, lots of old buildings containing antique shops. This could take you 15 minutes or half a day depending on what takees your fancy.

Re: Lincolnshire and the Lake District
While in Lincoln, this is a pleasant pub on Steep Hill, with decent food and not too gentrified (well, it wasn’t when I was last in there a couple of years ago): http://www.wigandmitre.com/wig-mitre/
