A spot of colour on an otherwise dull footpath.

Re: Photo Challenge 80 - Flowers

Well, closing date just passed, so now the results!

There were more entries for this one than for several recent competitions, so that's great, and let's keep it up for the future ones - thanks to everyone who entered for making it so hard to judge!

Because there were so many great ones to choose from, I feel justified in adding a couple of honourable mentions this time, as well as three, two and one.

First honourable mention to Barr1e - the bluebells were pretty, but I do like a good collie-dog shot!

Second mention to throt - for a rather unusual take on the standard rose shot, different angle, great use of droplets & focus.

So - the places: third place to KennyC. Lovely lavender field, great sweeping purples rows, rich colours contrasting with the sunflowers in the upper third, and the sky full of clouds. Beautiful.

Second place to Ralph Harwood - creative take on the close-up, turning the shot into a very painterly effect. Still recognisable for what it is, but a flower shot with a twist - very nicely done.

And - ta daaaa! First place - wornish. Daffodils in a glass vase. Sounds simple, but so much to like about this one - the shiny surface with lines leading off towards infinity, merging smoothly into the black background. The reflections, both in the glass vase itself, and of the vase on the surface. Green spiral shape of the stems within the vase, and the explosion of yellow at the top with the blooms against the black background, where they just pop out at you. Terrific!

So congratulations Dave, your first entry is a worthy winner ... talk about beginner's luck! Over to you now, for the next subject, and again, well done to everyone who took part.

Re: Photo Challenge 80 - Flowers

Wow, I am amazed and thanks for selecting my photo.
Congratulations to the other winners.

It was definitely beginners luck.
I will have a think and announce the next subject soon.

I am not familiar with the rules so should the competition run for a set time of 4 weeks ?

Well done Dave. I almost decided not to bother when I saw your entry and then Throt's.
Good competition Margaret and well called.

Congratulations Dave. The challenge should run for two weeks, but can be extended if you won't be available to judge at that time.
