The front duck looks like a domestic hybrid while the back one looks like a native Pacific Black Duck. They've learnt where to find 'home comforts' & free feeds, most likely.

Brrrrrrrrr.....it's bloody freezing here mate, enjoy.

Like the photy BTW

I suppose you'll come back with a great library of beautiful OZ pictures to keep us entertained for a year or three.
Still, on the bright side...no more Swansea or Burry Port for while.

Cheers.

Re: First morning in Oz Sunrise...

That's a good one of the Masked Lapwing (also known as spur-winged plover).

They can be heard at night too & can just lay their eggs on an open grass area.

Re: First morning in Oz Sunrise...

Mark, normally I refrain from posting images on others threads, yet in this instance because Ross has mentioned that
Lapwings nest on open ground, and because I happen to have pictures of that in my 2009 archives,
I'm hoping that you may not object. Please let me know if you do and I'll take it down right away.

Tasmania, Sept., 2009, Lapwings have spurs on their wings that can take out your eye if you threaten their chicks.

Re: First morning in Oz Sunrise...

Enjoy the roos and K'roo Valley, although in spite of searching the web I've no clue as to where in Qld it actually is.
Most seaches bring up K.V in NSW, and none display a map. So, wherever it is, enjoy those few days next week.
