Penshurst BOP 2018

The Bank Holiday weekend was exceptional weather so it was time for our regular trip to The Weald Of Kent Craft Fair at Penshurst Place. Highlight of the day, as usual, was the Bird Of Prey display by The Hawking Centre. They put on a pretty good show of just under an hour twice a day which makes the entrance price to the Craft Fair of 10 well worth it in my opinion... with the bonus that you can get in for free for the next two days and end up watching 6 shows if you want. There is also some "dog racing" in the arena in between the bird shows and of course the whole craft fair to visit.

Good weather, clear blue skies, camera batteries charged up and I'm ready to go.

All shot with the 40-150 F/2.8. The flying arena is small and intimate so you need to find a good place to stand about 10 minutes before they start. The 40mm end is very useful in the confined space as is the large aperture to get a lot of light in to help the focus even though I was shooting well stopped down to help with depth of field. The lack of the 1.4x TC (no time to change as the birds are flying around) means that the shots of the falcon are a bit small with a resultant loss in quality. All in all I had a good day.

First up the Barn Owl. (The girls in the red dresses are part of a vintage singing group).

Next the Eagle Owl.

Up next, the Harris Hawk called Jojo.

Maggie, the African Hooded Vulture

Finally, Nanook the Gyr Falcon.
