Happy New Year Sir! a member of the family worked closely with Margaret Thatcher and had a few stories for us over Christmas. I liked the one when Mrs Thatcher went to see Gorbachev and gave him some very nice gifts. In a loud voice in her apartment in Moscow, Mrs Thatcher announced irately “all they gave me was a framed photo in a wooden frame”.

The apartment was VIP accommodation and would have been bugged.

Having been to Russia (work) and for Christmas reading, I started reading a book called “The Spy and The Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War” Ben Macintyre. Recommended, a fascinating insight into the KGB, MI6 and fake news.

Watch the UK go down the rankings if we don't Brexit.

We are currently No:14 in the world.

According to their definition, we should be a 'Flawed Democracy' already!

Just read the terms & conditions of a holiday brochure and, disruptions caused by the UK leaving the EU is now included in the "force majeure" clause..

That could cover a whole multitude of mishaps.

It already does; including striking French/Spanish Air Traffic Controllers, striking French farmers, striking French fishermen. The list goes on.

Who ever thought insurance was supposed to pay out in the event of something unexpected going wrong?

Getting another trip to Lanzarote, the week after next. And perhaps one more trip before March. Brexit prep ongoing. One thing I'm struggling with.... It appear Grandad, mother's side, was born in what is now Northern Ireland, prior to the independence of the rest of the Ireland. I've been unable to establish if I should be able to get Irish citizenship.

The process isnít entirely simple or very cheap, but a good start will be to find your Grandadís birth certificate, or similar documentation.

I'd be surprised, because your Grandad was born in the 'Six Counties' that always were and still are part of the U.K.. If he ever held a passport it would have been a U.K. one. I'm guessing though!

The remainstream media - which predicted economic apocalypse - is silent about the outperformance of the UK economy versus the Eurozone economy. Given UK was supposed to be on its knees by now - according to the experts

Strangely enough I had a conversation with some German friends last Sunday 'and believe it or not' Brexit came up.

There are, it would seem, those that believe the EU is not so much worried about the UK departing 'the club' but, once having done so, should it show to be making a success of it, then some others who are also not too enamoured with the EU, might also be inclined to follow suit. The UK is being seen as the thin edge of a wedge.

Just some thoughts from the ordinary man and woman in the street. But it does make one wonder why such thoughts are there? Perhaps to some, the grass isn't as green as we are being led to belive?
