Even the French are dissatisfied with the EU, and they seem to gain more than most.
Can’t say I blame the French or any others contemplating leaving. It’s a huge overblown, overly expensive, unnecessary bureaucracy.

Government by committee...……..27 countries to agree before anything goes thru...

Unless the EU become the United States of Europe, it will always be a lumbering giant. Europe is so diverse, I can't see that happening. As said the EEC has brought quite a lot of good to us all, it really should have stopped there.

As for Brexit, can anyone see a realistic solution to the Irish border. It's between a rock and a hard place...……...

I'm neither for nor against, but the only solution I can see is either a hard border or unification.

It’s ridiculous to be stumbling over this stupid border, why can’t they just sort it out like adults instead of faffing about like this. Still we mustn’t forget its NI and they can’t govern themselves over some ridiculous green energy scheme that stemmed from people abusing the scheme. Eejits as they might say.

Jim, it has to be unification, it’s the only sensible solution.
Religion, particularly the Catholic variety, has a lot to answer for all over the world.

Religion per se is not the problem in NI. The problem stems from the bone headed attitudes of those concerned on both sides of the divide. Religion just provides a convenient battle line.

You have to wonder about any community that descends into violence when they commemorate battles that took place centuries ago.

There are still loyalist marchers camping out all year round because they were prevented from marching along Catholic streets about twenty years ago. How do you deal with backwards attitudes like that?

How about we join EFTA after we leave the EU. We were apparently one of its founding members before we joined the EU. Cost of membership would be in the region of £17Million per annum according to this site. Yes thats Million NOT Billion.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

The leaks about the shear scale of the lunacy keep coming and coming:

According to work commissioned by Chris Grayling, the transport secretary, a possible French decision to reintroduce customs checks could reduce freight coming into the UK via Dover and the Channel Tunnel by around 85%.

So the UK would in those circumstances have to bring in vital imports to other ports such as the Port of London, Tilbury and Liverpool.

The proposed scheme is called GOOL, or Government Owned or Operated Logistics.

“It’s the kind of stuff governments do in a time of war” said one member of the cabinet. “It is as serious as that”.

That said the best precedent for the plan was the creation by Clement Atlee’s Labour government in 1948 of the National Freight Corporation, which was originally known as British Road Services.

In the case of GOOL, three options are being examined: buying ships, leasing them or converting military vessels.

I am told the military option is thought to be the least viable.

“This was the bombshell in a meeting that contained lots of dull stuff” said another minister.

He added that perhaps it would be the “sobering moment” that showed colleagues why a no-deal Brexit would be “so damaging”.

To say nothing of the added air pollution from all the extra trucks needed when it won’t be on the trains... Oh! But the trucks aren’t even available.

Perhaps this has not been very well thought out

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

And now for something completely different...

From the Ministary of Silly Talks.

Having reached this stage in the Brexit process, many of us in the ministery have concluded that we, as a nation have given up on remaining a democracy. As was mentioned earlier about Sci-Fi writers having a fully operational crystal ball and that their fiction of today becomes our reality of tomorrow. This following narrative could very well fit the bill?

After we leave the EU, we will no longer be known as the United Kingdom of ... but will instead become known - due to the total incompetence of our elected RH Wicked-Willy members - as the United Bumbledom of ... and, that our society will be ruled under a new system of government, known as ... Idiocracy.

Idiocracy: A Sci-Fi comedy from 2006, that tells the story of a top-secret experiment of a - dystopian society - where anti-intellectualism and commercialism are rampant and is devoid of any intellectual curiosity, social responsibility or coherent notions of justice and human rights.

If you think this is far-fetched... check this political party out http://www.anti-powerpoint-party.com/

Personally, I'm sick of seeing the articles on BBC and other 'news' outlets shouting emotive headlines like 'stockpiling drugs' but slipping in 'may' or 'possible' or 'could' just to cover their slippery ar$es. Fake news or just sensationalism, it all works its way into peoples mind and causes no end of unnecessary uncertainty and worry for so many people.

I did not see the news, so I had to google it and it is on the BBC website about the drugs. I can't stand the bias at the BBC towards bad news and pushing forward their own political leanings to the British public. There are those who will swear that the BBC is neutral and is the standard for all professional journalists to follow Patients trying to stockpile their own drugs is not easy, as there is a system in play which kicks in should a Doctor over prescribe certain drugs or when the patient asks for more than their usual quota, it gets flagged up at their GP practice, so I can't see how NHS patients will be able to stockpile prescribed medication ahead of March 29.

If the story is true, it will be the vulnerable who will suffer.

So we ignore it, because none of it is true?
