Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

A couple from a trip to Weston-Super-Mare yesterday (wife and Sprog#2 were in the Pier playing slot machines, I was having a play with CAF and tracking).

The exhaust on my car decided to blow up on the way back which was a bit of a downer.

Great action shot and itís not something that is seen every day. Was it an accidental collision or a territorial fight, out of interest? Thank you for posting.

I'm far from being an expert, but I believe this is a pair of birds 'playing' together just after leaving their roost before they head off to hunt. I think it's the female that's upside down here (they're larger and have a creamy head).

A bit later on in the Spring they do some bonding displays when they pass each other bits and pieces in mid air, but I've never seen that.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

One of the Siskins which have been visiting my garden recently. It's the first time I have ever seen them there. I have posted some more shots in a separate thread if anybody is interested.

I don't really know Mark. I think they were just so greedy that they kept on feeding as I edged closer and closer. I was amazed by their tolerance.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Yes I love Siskins but have seen none this year. Glad you have them Ron. I have only once got close to one but the light wasn't as nice as this. I saw the others when you posted them but neglected to say they were great.

Birds rely on garden feeders more and more. Which brings the sparrowhawk round as well We had a fine male sitting on the fence watching our bird bath yesterday. Moved on before I got the camera.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

This one is way too big to get up to the feeder but keeps coming back to get the big seeds the little birds throw out.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I think this is an Eider - do the birding experts agree?

Yes, it's an Eider drake Paul. A lovely shot of a handsome bird.
