Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye

Has anyone got a Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye Lens? Specifically when used with an E-M1.

Birthday is coming up & mum is bound to ask me what I want. Fancy playing with a fish eye. No way can I afford the Olympus fisheye.

Wondering if with the 180 degree view I will end with fingers / grip in the image on the em-1.

Re: Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye

It's a cracking lens and it works fine on the E-M1. Fisheye perspectives can be very creative. Body parts in-shot aren't really an issue unless you point the camera down.

Is the bodycap fisheye lens still available as a budget option?

It works well and takes some getting used to, so you have to get used to a whole different way of using it

Get too close to a reflecting surface and you end up seeing yourself:

I don't own it but borrow a friends & find it extremely good. Now I have finally saved up & bought the 40-150 + extender I will buy my own but then they have just launched the new 7-14mm & might sell my Panny version for the only. Does it ever stop!

Re: Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye

Excellent specialist lens. Be careful to keep your fingers out of shot. my first attempts to use it on my EPL5 had the edge of a finger from my left hand showing in the bottom left of frame. On larger cameras this wasn't an issue and it's easy enough to ensure you hold the EPL5 correctly.

Re: Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye

Well - you have all made my mind up, thanks for the recommendation. Better get it on order so I can play with it before I want to use it anger.

Graham, that's a reflection of the lens from one of the mirrors? Interesting sculpture. I tend to stay well away from Mirrors, they have a habit of cracking when I look at them.

Mark, I have looked at the body cap, it looks OK & you can still get it,. Personally I think I'm gonna go for the smayang, everyone seems to like it including review sites like D P review.

Where to buy it from, do I risk buying from Hong Kong or do I pay more & get it in the UK?

Re: Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye

Japan runs the risk you'll pay import duty, try Fotonia Poland on eBay, as they're in the EU there's no danger of duties being payable and I've had two lenses, a Samyang 12mm and a Voightlander Nokton25mm from them at decent savings. Fully tracked delivery I watched mine as they left Poland, visited Germany and finally got into the UK. Delivery took about 5 days each time and I have no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer.

OK, OK, I get the idea... those that have it, love it. Minds made up.

Paul - love the architecture shots and that mushroom one is awesome.

Re: Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye

Yeah, it's the sort of lens, like the 45 f1.8 for subject isolation, that's so small and light you can carry it round along with a 2 zoom lens basic kit and not notice you've got it, but it allows you to take the occasional shot that is truly impossible to take otherwise.

I love that second shot, Paul.

The wheatfield and mushroom shots are great, Paul... must do more with my own Samyang.

Cheers, Steve.

I'm selling my 8mm FT mount version...not sure how much difference that extra half a mm makes to the FOV though!

Re: Samyang 7.5mm F3.5 Fish-eye

how easy are they to use, being manual focus ? Is it literally chuck it on and leave it ? I'm tempted by one but not sure if i'd get fed up ( being bloody lazy )
