Hear hear. Well said that man!

[quote=StephenL;342947]That's a bit strong, Jim. Surely everyone in a democratic society is entitled to politely criticise others?[quote]

Yes, but I'd never wade in and criticise a pro-republican Australian in an Australian discussion about their constitution.

Quote:
As I recall, your own partner is not a native Briton? Do you allow her to have an opinion?
Yes, as the widow of a UK national she has the democratic rights of a UK national, so she is entitled to have a say in the matter.

I'll say again: I don't think that the institution of a monarchy has a place in the 21st century, though I bear the individual members no ill will.

I thought the BBC reported 8 Lb 2 yesterday?

It is a good size though. Ours were 8 Lb 10 and 8 Lb 12 respectively, which to quote Del Boy made my hand hurt for a while!

Jim, I've got my mod hat on now. You've made your point (over and over again) and it's becoming tiresome. Now, with this post you've gone too far. Our Queen is also the Queen of the Commonwealth, including Australia, and to suggest that Ross has no right to an opinion on the matter (whilst you are voicing your opinion ad nauseam) is outrageous. I think it is time you vacated this thread, otherwise I may have to give you a short holiday from the forum.

If my FB world is anything to go by, if I were a mod I'd delete any threads which become political, however innocently started. They invariably end up like this and serve no useful purpose.

At last some common sense prevails - this site is becoming like Facebook - now where are the photographs. AIMHO.

As I'm not a foreigner, as you put it, but a subject of the Monarchy in Australia (as well as being a son of a Brit), I have every right to make my comment & I think it is in poor taste that you have to keep on being such an ardent critic in this thread. This thread wasn't started to open up a debate about the Royals or the institution but just as the title has clearly stated & please do us all a favour & stop being a total spoiler for those of us that wanted to congratulate Kate & Wills, that is Prince William and Catherine, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

As much as I dislike censorship, with hindsight I should have deleted the negative posts as soon as they appeared. The problem with deleting a thread such as this is that it denies genuine well-wishers the opportunity to celebrate the happy event. However, this thread is now so far off track I'm closing it. My thanks to Chevvy, for starting it and to all those who had the good grace to add their best wishes.
