Re: Its a girl :) well done Kate & Wills

I'm not a particular royalist, but I enjoyed watching hours of TV of a door far more than the many hours of political circus that has been going on for the past few months

Jim, glad to hear (no offence taken, not about your skin )

I bet the door made more sense.

Re: Its a girl :) well done Kate & Wills

I think we are lucky to have the Royal Family - they bring so much Tourism and Generate so many £billions for our Country each year. Apart from which, they are quite unique as far a Royals go and step out in public lots which further stimulates GDP.

Heaven knows with the past few years, this Country has need all this Tourist income - look at Greece ... how many people visit to see the Greek Royal family ? or care if they have babies ...

I too am not a Royalist but I am not against them either

We could do a LOT worse !

You took the words out of my mouth. I too am not particularly a Royalist, but they do raise our profile for the better in the world, which can't be a bad thing.

You could say the same thing about bullfighting in Spain. It doesn't make it right though.

Bullfighting in Spain just does not compare, in my mind Jim !

Bullfighting is a "Spanish Culture" and if they treat the animals humanly I can cope with that - its better than a Pig Electric Stun, at least the Bull gets a chance and a bit of fun/adrenaline rush ...

but I would NEVER GO TO SPAIN to see a Bullfight, even though I love the Bullfighters Outfits and the slim, muscled, trim, athletic bodies of the young men ... oops best stop there

How could we do better ? I am interested to know

The people of Yaohnanen believe Prince Philip to be a Devine being.
Not sure I'd necessarily agree with them, but I think he's really amusing, a funny man indeed.

If we replace the Royal Family with an elected president, 'Phil' could easily get another job as a standup comedian, I'd pay to watch a performance!

Re: Its a girl :) well done Kate & Wills

I don't particularly like the idea of paying thugs £millions a year to kick a football around a field, but I don't make a point of mentioning it online at every opportunity.

Likewise the £millions that we pay non entities such as Jonathan Woss, Clarkson, May, Hammond and other so called 'celebrities' to grace our television screens. "Celebrity Big Brother" and "I'm a Celebrity, Get me Out Of Here" are two others that we could also do well without IMHO.

I'm all for equality, ending poverty, etc., but the Royals make a very positive contribution to our country and culture, and would be a very long way down my list of 'wrongs' to put right.

Re: Its a girl :) well done Kate & Wills

I'm really disappointed this has become a slanging match (by one or two) against the royals or the institution. To me it sounds like a 'sour grapes' attitude, "I've had a tough life & how dare anybody be better off than me!" As far as I'm concerned, get over it!

This was a thread wishing the best & congratulating Kate & Wills on the birth of their daughter & if you can't do that then get off!

As a foreigner, I don't think you're really in a position to criticise those of us that object to having an archaic institution like the monarchy.

That's a bit strong, Jim. Surely everyone in a democratic society is entitled to politely criticise others? As I recall, your own partner is not a native Briton? Do you allow her to have an opinion?
