I have eaten 52 of these - not all at once of course.

Black eyed peas, are they not a pop group?

Well.i.am most impressed by your knowledge of popular music, Barrie!

Must get down to the supermarket to look for photogenic specimens for this challenge!

Market day in Tring today.

Took many pix on the fruit and veg stall with the Stylus 1. These will be used in the future.

Decided on showing one I took this morning at home with the same camera.

I am using this as a reminder as the challenge has started off quite slowly.

Regards. Barr1e

I just happened to be in Borough market yesterday with an E-P1 in my pocket and could not resist the opportunity to show off Oly colours.

Hi there Barrie!

Thanks for the choice of subject - you have spurred me into trying still life for the first time ever!

Cheers,

Ralph.

It's years since I've done still-life, but I likewise have been spurred into action. It was also an excuse to try Live Composite - which is just a fantastic tool for still-life.

I also tried my hand at the so-called "Orton" effect in post-processing - this adds a slight blur and saturation lift which if done sparingly looks quite nice.

John ('Zuiko'), can you let us into the secret how you did you do the smoking peppers shot?
Excellent shot, like it a lot.

It's a trick I learnt at my photography club, requiring a long exposure. The only light source is a small torch held directly above the peppers. Four strands of string of equal length are tied to the torch and allowed to dangle in its beam, with the ends reaching down to the peppers. Throughout the exposure the torch is jiggled so that the string is always moving, creating a blurred, smoke-like effect. This effect can be varied by how much you jiggle the strings.

My only problem was that I couldn't control the highlights on the chili peppers - I didn't realize just how reflective they are!

Thanks John, I've learnt something new today!
I'm considering membership of a photo club, but dont really go in for the competition thing. In my case it would be for education mainly, but there is a social aspect to it I suppose.

Our club is mainly social, practical and educational, with little emphasis on competitions. We have perhaps four a year and they are always informal. We don't do battles with other clubs, etc.

He should submit one, any one - just choose at random, they're all top quality.

Thankfully, they're all taken with Nikon gear and hence not eligible!
