Challenge 67 - Fruit and vegetables

The Subject for this latest challenge is 'Fruit and Vegetables'.

Think of colours and designs - the choices are numerous.
The important thing is to have fun with the challenge.

Closing date: Midnight (UK time) on Saturday 14th March 2015

Here are the rules, which should be copied and pasted into the opening post of each round:-

1) The winner of each round becomes the Curator of the next challenge and is responsible for setting the theme and making final judgement of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Ideally he/she will make a few comments concerning what they liked about the winning pictures and why they were chosen, but this is not compulsory.

2) A separate thread should be started for comments with each new round and all discussions should take place there, not in the main thread, which should feature pictures entered for the competition only.

3) Each round should be open for entries for two weeks, with the Curator posting the results as soon as possible after entries have closed and the winner setting a new challenge as soon as possible after that.

4) If for any reason a Curator is unable to complete judging their challenge, or a winner is unable or unwilling to become the next Curator, they must contact a moderator immediately so that alternative arrangements can be made.

5) The Curator's decision is final and cannot be disputed. The challenge is designed to be a light-hearted and fun way to encourage friendly competition.

6) All entries must have been taken on an Olympus digital camera, including compacts. Third party lenses on E-System bodies are acceptable. The Exif data should be preserved for every entry. The exception is for processing techniques where the exif for the final image is lost, i.e. for montages, HDR, focus stacking, etc... and in this case all that is required is for one of the original images used to be available to the Curator to check Exif, if needed. It is not anticipated that this will be needed except in the case of a complaint from a forum member. Remember, this is not a competition with prizes at stake and the main purpose is to encourage members to showcase their favourite shots whilst having a bit of fun and friendly rivalry, at the same time demonstrating what a talented bunch we all are!

7) There are no time limits on when a picture was taken, provided it meets all other criteria.

8) Only one entry per challenge, please. If you want to withdraw an entry and replace it with another, that's OK, but you must make it clear in the post containing your replacement picture that this is what you intend doing.

9) The Curator cannot enter his or her own challenge.

Regards. Barr1e

Re: Challenge 67 - Fruit and vegetables

As I am unlikely to get to a proper market in the next couple of weeks, and as the big supermarkets may not be too happy if I start snapping at their veg displays, the arrival of our organic fruit and veg box gave me the opportunity to take a few pics.... and be the first to enter this competition.

Re: Challenge 67 - Fruit and vegetables

I thought I'd use this challenge to give Live Composite mode a try. So, here's a shot of some garlic that I stole from the kitchen for an hour! My wife thought I was bonkers!

Garlic by Paul Kaye, on Flickr

Live Comp is a great feature for still life. The E-M5ii's hi-res mode would be useful for this sort of thing too (although I'm guessing you can't mix Live Comp with hi-res).

I've subsequently given the shot some PP in an "Orton" style.

Re: Challenge 67 - Fruit and vegetables

Nice selection of pictures, Luckychucky, but which one do you wish to nominate as your competition entry? I suggest leaving the one you consider to be your best shot here, to be considered for the monthly challenge, and moving the rest to a new thread in the Foto Fare section. I can help you with this, if you let me know which picture you would like to keep here for your competition entry.

Challenge 67 - Fruit and vegetables

Sorry, didn't realize, only excuse I have. I'm new and I didn't read the instructions. Sorry. I didn't realize it was a challenge. I was just posting pictures of fruit. I will learn better. Besides I'd make a terrible curator.

That's OK, no problem.

Re: Challenge 67 - Fruit and vegetables

A selection of fruit/vegetables/cuddly toys collected on our last narrow boat trip on the South Yorkshire Navigations...

...five different types of apples, fresh sweetcorn and the most delicious grapes found growing next to a lock...(we asked the owner's permission to take!) Roses from a disused lock keepers cottage and cuddly toy rescued from the cut!

We lived on apple pie and apple crumble for three weeks as it would have been rude not to use our finds!

Yes...the chimney is wonky following an altercation with a stroppy bridge 'ole!

Re: Challenge 67 - Fruit and vegetables

This was a most pleasing challenge and many thanks to the contributors, the standard of entries was superb.

The final result was quite difficult as three could have made first spot, unfortunately there has to be a winner as I don't think we have had a challenge run jointly.

The list below is not the order of choice but as entered.

OM USer Fabulous colours just as nature intended and the clarity is spot on.

RogerMac what a cornucopia of colours this was high on my points system - a cracker!

pdk42 my heart skipped a beat when I first saw this entered - a well thought out image - the lighting and colours spot on.

Ralph Harwood my sort of style - the colours intergrated well - a lovely image.

DavyG - that brought a smile to my face - well thought out and the colours spot on too.

Zuiko I don't say wow often - what an outstanding entry.

luckychucky look forward to your Oly entries in future.

Janet a great entry with lots of thoughtful touches - this had me thinking for a while.

================================

Here are the results:

Congratulations John.

Regards. Barr1e
