A blast from the past

For many years I've needed to digitise hundreds of old colour slides from my past. I have taken images on all makes of film but it is interesting that the only brand that has consistently maintained accurate colours is Kodachrome. I show here a shot taken on a Pentax S1A at the Goroka Independance Day Celebrations in Papua New Guinea in 1976. Loads and loads of these and I think you'll agree that despite the age the colours are really well preserved. Apologies for it not being taken on an E-series camera!

Re: A blast from the past

Maybe I should convince my dad to do this with all his old slides and all of our negatives. Time is the problem. They have hundreds of photos of us growing up.

It looks really well preserved and a great shot

I do agree, the colour is very natural, David - no doubt about it, like vinyl records, film has a certain quality that us .. er ... "Seniors" will always revere.

This is very interesting Pictures like these are valuable records of fast disappearing cultures.

Out of interest how did you scan these?

Quite by coincidence I posted a blog update on DPNow about Pentax:

Ian, I considered getting a dedicated slide scanner but after I had scanned all my slides it would have been superfluous, so the cheaper and easier option was to use a commercial lab:
