NVIDIA - AI to remove Noise, Grain and Watermarks

This technology keeps advancing. It can be very useful in some areas like MRI scanning and astrophotography as the article says. But removing watermarks is a major downside.

The link to the actual research paper is at the bottom of the article and it makes interesting reading if you want to learn more.

The Topaz guy at the NEC was making a big play about the AI that they use. He certainly did a great demonstration although it was very similar to previous years so he should be good at it.

Yes I agree, the Topaz demo almost got me reaching for the credit card.

I know what you mean Derek me too but I resisted, only because I'd just bought the Pany 100-400. Not so sure I'd have had as much self control if I'd been to the Topaz stand after I'd taken the lens back for a refund

Re: NVIDIA - AI to remove Noise, Grain and Watermarks

I assume that the 'AI' has been trained so that it 'knows' what to expect from a wide range of subject matter. The laws of physics mean that it cannot recover what is totally obscured by noise but it can recover larger structures and fill in plausible detail from its database.

I feel that this is shown in the strangely 'plastic' appearance of some of the images - especially the unrealistically smooth face of the model. I would like to see it subjected to independent tests, to see how reliable the recovered data are in challenging detailed subjects.
