Oly Viewer/E-1 update/Windows 7 (64)

I don't have my Oly Viewer CD anymore, and I'd like to be able to do the E-1 firmware things. More as a point of principle than anything else, as I have the latest firmware and I don't suppose it'll change anytime now.

I can access the E-1 via the trial version of Studio 2.0 so the camera-computer interface should be OK, but I can't access it via the latest version of Master. Does anyone know where I can download a version of Viewer that'll work on 64 bit Windows? Why Olympus don't just give you downloads for this stuff defeats me.

I presume that because you're asking this question, Oly Master doesn't work with the E-1? 'Cos Master works fine on W7/64.

That's correct Stephen, Master 2.3 isn't seeing the E-1 in either "Storage" or "Control" modes. That's on my 64 bit Win 7 installation. Studio 2 is seeing it.

Just a thought, Stephen, Did you do a W7 upgrade from an XP setup where the E-1 worked? Because if so, that may have carried over the driver. Mine is a new install.

Re: Oly Viewer/E-1 update/Windows 7 (64)

I installed Master and Studio on a win7 64bit machine and both worked with my E620 so wonder if its something specific to the E1?

Re: Oly Viewer/E-1 update/Windows 7 (64)

Oh yes, it's the E-1. It never used to work with Master, it always needed Viewer. My E-3 worked fine.

cheers

Re: Oly Viewer/E-1 update/Windows 7 (64)

I remember when I bought my (used) E1 it came without the Viewer software disc. I managed to track it down eventually via a link someone had kindly posted on 4/3rds user (I think). With XP it also needed an additional driver to work - don't know about Win 7.

I may still have the original download file as I am sad, and tend to keep that kind of thing. If I do, I'll email it.

What I don't understand is why they couldn't have just added the few lines of code needed for the E1 firmware upgrade thingy to work with "Master". One of Oly's numerous customer care aberations.

I don't have an E1 to try it but I'd see if the Olympus E1 driver helped at all:

Re: Oly Viewer/E-1 update/Windows 7 (64)

Hugh & Paul

Thanks for the input. I too remember installing a driver, but one thing that doesn't work with 64 bit systems is 32 bit drivers, so I'm wary about installing one.

Anyhow, Studio picks it up alright so I don't think it's a driver issue, I think it's just that Master doesn't recognize the E-1.

It wouldn't be so bad if Studio wasn't so useless, 90 euros for a very average RAW development tool doesn't stack up.

Someone's going to try and arrange a download of Viewer - I'll see how that goes.

Hence why I said try - apparently some lucky people have had some luck installing 32bit drivers on 64bit windows (I've not tried myself yet) - it's unlikely to work but you never know without trying and the worst that can happen is that you have to un-install it (assuming it'll even install in the first place)

John, you may or may not have a link arrived in your normal inbox.
The file seems to have left here into the ether, after a couple of false starts.
Please let me know when and if it arrives; I'm not entirely convinced yet.

I used goaruna.com/ or maybe I haven't

Re: Oly Viewer/E-1 update/Windows 7 (64) - Conclusion

I think I can now confirm that neither Viewer nor Master will ever detect an E-1 on W7/64. It may be the Windows 7 part or it may be the 64 bit part, I can't tell.

W7 installed Master 7, after some very slick hocus pocus where it decided that Master wasn't going to work so it switched it all to XP mode . The Viewer update to 1.51 however failed outright . The E-1 driver install failed because it couldn't detect the camera, so Master wasn't going to work (it never did for me, even on XP)

So if you are going to hang on to your E-1 as your only 4/3 camera, if you have Win7/64 then you will need Studio to update firmware on the camera and/or lenses.
