Yeah, you ripped our design (even if we did import the parts from you guys in exchange for our meat! )

The Tyne Bridge was completed first in 1928, as a prototype for the much larger Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932.

The Cleveland Bridge Co. is still going strong.

That's interesting. The Sydney Harbour Bridge construction started in 1924, took 8 years to build. Total length: 1,149 m

Tyne Bridge total length: 389 metres (1,276 ft) Btw, does it take cars or is it just a footbridge?

You may well ask my bonny lad.

At certain times of day it resembles a four-lane car park.

I believe the Sydney bridge has a lower deck for trains?

We have the High Level bridge in Newcastle, built by Robert Stephenson in 1849, which has trains on the top deck, and 'carriages' on the lower deck.

We used to be able to drive over it, but like much of the Toon it is the preserve of buses and taxis now.

I'm afraid the picture below isn't al that clear as "there's fog on the Tyne".

Re: Happy NEW YEAR 2017 from OZ!

Our Sydney Harbour Bridge has the railway tracks on the western (other) side only with traffic using the rest. The Cahill Expressway basically used the eastern (this) side while the rest had changing lanes for peak times in the middle. They have made changes to it over the years, but thankfully I hardly ever need to drive over it now.

There was an incident in the middle of December there. Cahill Expressway truck rollover causes Harbour Bridge and Tunnel traffic chaos.

Nice scenery and supporting structures there Ross.

The bridge is nice too. Looks like the Tyne Bridge on steroids.

Hmmmm...

I love both Newcastle and Sydney, and would be perfectly happy to spend half the year in each as long as it was the right half year...

I have done the Bridgeclimb in Sydney: http://www.bridgeclimb.com/

...and how many remember this glorious celebration of the Tyne bridges (skip the advert):

Ross – you have to understand that ‘fog on the Tyne’ is just a polite way of describing the usual air quality in Newcastle. As for your scenic view of SHB I think a large amount of cropping to Portrait would have vastly added interest to the shot

Oh thank you. So there was a bridge behind those beautiful, slender supporting structures?

I was actually alluding to the song "Fog on the Tyne" by Lindisfarne. Thankfully air quality in Toon has improved enormously over the past forty years or so, but the nearby North Sea often results in a very cold, thick and wet 'Sea Fret' (sea fog) blanketing the entire area; especially in late spring when the sea is still very cold, but the land is warm.

Even in high summer it is not unusual to leave home in brilliant sunshine and 25 °C, only to arrive at the coast at Seaton Canoe ten miles away to find it is cold and foggy.
