Printer profiles.

Anyone installed printer profiles when using Adobe Colour printer utility? I use Lightroom 5 on a mac and have downloaded the utility, but do not fully understand the instructions. (Yeah, I know, it's my age!)

Re: Printer profiles.

Not sure what you mean here. As I understand it the Adobe utility lets you make a print without any profiling at all - which can be quite difficult because a lot of print programs won't do that. I used it to get custom profiles made for Fotospeed papers on my Epson printer. The process for them is:

1. Download sample colour chart
2. Print it with no profile using the Adobe utility - Fotospeed's instructions tell you which paper etc. setting to use
3.Post print off for profiling
4. Get email back from Fotospeed with profile attached, instructions for installing and a sample file to print

It has worked well for me on two Epson printers. The Fotospeed service is free for their own papers (and Hahnemuhle, I think), and I think other paper suppliers do something very similar.

Re: Printer profiles.

Thanks for your reply John.
When I open ACPU I get a set of instructions as follows.
"You will be presented with an Open File dialog. Navigate to your target image (TIFF) and select it."
I don't know what the target image is, or where to get it from.

Re: Printer profiles.

In general, it is the file that you want to print. And presumably the utility only understands TIFFs. In the Fotospeed case, it is the sample colour chart - I can't remember whether you download it from their website, or they email it to you in response to a query.

What brand of paper are you wanting to get profiles for?

Re: Printer profiles.

Thanks John. It was the word, "Target ' that threw me. I have sussed it now, I think.
