Any opinions on the Meike MK320 for E-M5?

Say it all really, after a fruitless search for a good used FL-36/R on eBay I have considered the Meike MK320 which I am led to understand is compatible with OM-D E-M5 series I cameras and it appears to be a snip at around 50.00; I'm just curious if anyone here has owned, owns, or has considered and decided against this flash, and what results and experiences you may have to share....

Regards

David

I don't have any knowledge of that flash but here is a review of it. http://www.lightingrumours.com/meike-mk320p-review-7458
This is one comment from one user which would worth noting.

I have the Canon EOS version. It works fine, except for these caveats: 1. Guide number 32 is bogus, since it's apparently calculated at the theoretical 105mm setting that the flash does not even have; realistically it's 22 at its fixed 24mm setting. 2. No HSS as stand alone. 3. HSS available only for as optical Master to control another off camera flash, but in this set up the MK320 does not contribute to exposure; it flashes to control the other flash only. 4. The diffuser cap pops off easily and must be taken off to change batteries, which makes it prone to be lost, and looks like no replacement available separately

Re: Any opinions on the Meike MK320 for E-M5?

Interesting review there, thanks Ross;

The price is a consideration at half that of the Nissin i40, so now being aware of the GN thing I still think I'd be inclined to get one of these as an interim measure, possibly with a view to either saving up for a new FL-600R, or demanding one for Xmas.......

I bought a Metz flash for the E-M1
Quite pleased with it - and it was cheaper than the 600R

Hi Mike,

which of the Metz range did you buy? I know there's a couple of models that would be compatible.....

Thanks,
Dave

For something big, the Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-2 Digital Flash For Olympus or Panasonic is worthwhile. This is one Australian supplier that shows it. https://www.camerastore.com.au/metz-..._tab_products4

EDIT: But then there is also the Metz 64 AF-1 Digital Flash https://www.ephotozine.com/article/m...h-review-26036

My Metz flash failed in under 2 years before the first set batteries ran out and the retailer and Metz did not want to know.

A 36AF-4

I use a nissin Di466 which worked better with my camera anyway.

Re: Any opinions on the Meike MK320 for E-M5?

@ Ross, and Alfbranch

Cheers for the options guys, the 58 and 64 models are a bit big for my needs; one of my reasons for going from EOS DSLRs to the Oly is the compactness so I'm keeping it small'n'light;

I have just succumbed to an Ebay purchase, a Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-5 Flash for Olympus/Panasonic Micro/Four Thirds cameras, that literally was newly posted while browsing; absolute bargain from a 100% feedback seller in clean condition and working as new...... price? 24.95, and if it's no good - returns accepted!

This should satisfy my needs for a short-term solution, which I'll then pass on to my wife to use, either with her Pen or it's potential replacement E-M10 ii....

Thanks for the input here - it's appreciated!
I notice Wex have a couple of these at 69.99

For that price it is a bargain & should work fine for most things but don't expect a long distance of coverage with it although with the higher ISO capabilities of our recent cameras it becomes less of a problem. When I started with the E410 & E520 DSLR's (with a max ISO of 1600) & used the Olympus FL36R it struggled when I tried to bounce flash in a larger hall (but was fine in a house with low & white ceilings) & that's when I wanted the bigger flash.

Have fun & enjoy it!
