EU Gov. trying to ban our photos!

Sorry I've just seen that KeithL has posted about the same thing but in case you missed it....

I found an article yesterday about a barmy Brussels plan to ban people from taking photographs of public buildings and uploading or otherwise sharing them without the permission of the architect of the building. The link is below and makes worrying reading.

Re: EU Gov. trying to ban our photos!

yep; saw that earlier. I can really see them stopping the MP photographers lol. Our freedom to a free world is getting smaller by the day but what they forget is people visit those places because they see PHOTOS of those places

Re: EU Gov. trying to ban our photos!

How will this impact on CCTV or traffic cameras with buildings in the frame?

The police won't be able to share their pictures on-line

Re: EU Gov. trying to ban our photos!

So before we take a photograph of St Paul's Cathedral we will need the permission of Sir Christopher Wren. Interesting!

It's one thing passing a loony law like this, but how will they enforce it? I won't stop taking pictures of buildings, will you?

Re: EU Gov. trying to ban our photos!

I think he has gone underground probably due to all the photographers writing to him for permission to take photographs!

Re: EU Gov. trying to ban our photos!

I urge everyone to sign the petition and publish all of the photos they have of relevant buildings, copyright free before the ban takes force. Let the courts sort that one out!

Google Street View will look somewhat different

I imagine their lawyers will make a bundle out of it

Re: EU Gov. trying to ban our photos!

No need to be so quick to blame "the EU"; it's down to one French MEP who has put forward the equivalent of a Private Members' Bill. And - get this! - it will only apply to MODERN buildings!

He's got a bee in his bonnet about Facebook making money from people posting photos of buildings on their FB account (and Twitter, and Google, etc)

Incidentally, it's illegal to take photos of people in Paris and put them online without the permission of everyone in the images. (Not, it seems, elsewhere in France!) How barmy is it? Reminds me of Lakeside in Detroit, where all the rich people live. You aren't allowed to drive through at less than 25 MPH....or the police will come out of nowhere and slap you in gaol. So what if you get a puncture, run out of petrol etc? Everywhere has its daft laws, and nowhere is worse than the States. I remember one state has a law saying that you mustn't carry a loaded ice cream cone in your back pocket........

There's also, I'm told, a byelaw in London that says that cabbies can urinate on one of the wheels of their cab, but I think it has to be the nearside front wheel; to do it on any of the others is illegal, and you mustn't do it on a Sunday...or something like that.

The law is truly an ass, and it gets more asinine every year.

Not as bonkers as the laws that allow private individuals and loosely-defined "faith" groups to setup "free" schools and then brainwash our children in their ways:
