Re: Battery Issue!

I have a new battery on order and I won't try to start the camera again with the old one. Right now I've just left it in ON mode with no battery to try and reset it. It's the exact same behavior as the original starter of this thread experienced so I hope it is a protection built into the camera.

Re: Battery Issue!

Another thought: the beeps may signify a jam of the shutter or mirror, or that the focusing screen and tray have popped loose. You can look at the latter with the lens off (my screen pops out with a hard knock), and perhaps a look at the last image captured will reveal a defect in the exposure, suggesting a shutter problem.

Re: Battery Issue!

Follow up: with focus screen tray down and and screen just sitting there loose, my e-1 turns on normally without a beep. Presumably this also means I could shoot a pic and the mirror would flip up right into the metal tray and gain a nice scratch, or worse.

Re: Battery Issue!

So just for the record, after all my efforts to resolve the 20 beep issue nothing worked and I am buying a new E-1 body. Olympus support had no clue and I can't find any kind of web info on what must be an error code. Tried everything I could think of, just nothing at all worked.

Re: Battery Issue!

Well, that's probably the best solution as the camera is very nice and cheap to replace. I suppose the beeps occur even without a lens attached? I guess it will remain something of an enigma.

Re: Battery Issue!

No need for anyone to answer, just documenting the evolution of this issue.

My 'new' E-1 body arrived and is great, and visibly mechanical identical to the broken one.

Now I did find a reference on line to someone having a similar issue with an E-1 camera that got wet.

As we live outside Philadelphia and the humidity is sky high in summer I'm wondering if it got condensation inside so I am now thinking about how to thoroughly dry it.....

Re: Battery Issue!

The slow way. Seal it in an airtight container with some silica gel.

The fast way. Put it in an oven at its lowest setting. A gas oven may be warm enough with just the pilot light.
