Re: Olympus STF-8 Twin Flash

Likewise! Trying to use the RF-11 or STF-22 on the E-M1 is very hit and miss, most often the flash doesn't detect that it is attached to a camera and powers off after a couple of seconds That is the cue to dig out the trusty old E-5

Cheers,

JohnGG

Re: Olympus STF-8 Twin Flash

Does it pick up power from the new flash power pin on the latest camera bodies or is there a battery compartment?

It is $699 (Australian) here which I think is quite reasonable for what it is. The FL-900R is $899 by comparison (the FL50R back when was about $800).

Re: Olympus STF-8 Twin Flash

I have the canon version of the flash and it's a great bit of kit. I will seriously look at purchasing this (OLY) flash. My main gripe with both flashes is I cannot understand for the life of me why as a new flash(OLY) it has cables????
There must be something I am missing I hope someone can enlighten me.
With all the new OLY innovations at present I will maybe make the entire jump to OLY and sell both 7dmk2s and all flashes ???
Kind regards mike

Hi Alf that's very reasonable compared to my cannon model will have to see. It will be interesting to see if other size adapters will be available either OLY or third party.
Kind regards mike.

It is not as powerful as the Canon twin flash or the previous Oly Stf-22

Re: Olympus STF-8 Twin Flash

I was wondering if the cables are detachable (at one end or the other) to make it easier to fit 'in the field' but the answer I have had from Olympus UK is NO but they did attach the manual which (hopefully) I have attached to this post.

Having already got an RF-11 I was intending to change to this STF-8, in fact had pre-ordered one (now cancelled until I can see one 'in the flesh'), because of the size and weight of the controller for the RF-11.

John GG

FYI I have successfully used the RF-11 on my E-M5 and 60mm Macro with Focus Bracketing.

Edit: Doesn't look as if the attachment worked, it is too big at 7.5Mb so if anybody would like a copy then please PM me. I tried deleting all languages except English but it is still 1.1Mb

Re: Olympus STF-8 Twin Flash

frankly this will need to be good for me to buy as the 60 mm is Ok but is very poor in MF and AF is a waste of time and memory.

This flash will need to go some to be better than this set up

This is an uncropped shot of a springtail maybe 2.5mm long with that rig
