Capture One questions

With my Amateur Photographer magazine technical help 'expert' hat on I need some help to answer a question submitted by an E-M10 user who uses Panasonic lenses. First of all he wants to batch crop his photos (shot in raw) to 3:2 aspect ratio and, secondly, he bemoans the lack of lens profiles for Panasonic lenses.

He uses Capture One (no idea which version) and I am not familiar with the software any more as I last used it about 8 years ago!

If anyone can help and advise on how to assist this person, please let me know

Ian

Re: Capture One questions

OK, well I have worked out how to do the cropping. Apply the crop to one image and then you can use Apply adjustments to selected variants. This is quite similar to Lightroom's synchronise edits method.

Now - DIY lens profiles...

Re: Capture One questions

So, it seems Capture One will try to use manufacturer correction data in the lens metadata, which could explain why there is a dearth of lens profiles for Panasonic lenses.

Re: Capture One questions

There aren't exactly 'too many' Panasonic (or Leica) lenses listed, are there?

........as opposed to the short list of Olympus lenses.

Re: Capture One questions

Only just seen this thread, the thing with capture one 8& above is you can select to get lens correction that is built into the exif raw file and you can modify it to fine turn it if you like the save as a lens preset.
It does work it did for me I tried it out on an Olympus lens that wasn't listed at the time it sorted lens distortion purple fringe, even edge and corner softening.

Re: Capture One questions

Yes, that's right (I've only just seen this thread as well).

I use the Panny 15 and the 35-100 f2.8 a lot and neither have built-in profiles, but I made my own. Actually the built-in one for the 14 f2.8 seemed extremely close to that of the 15 so I just modified that slightly. I suspect for anything less than critical architectural work most people would be happy using the 14 one unmodified.

I can't remember what I based on for the tele zoom, but overall it didn't take much effort to get something that I'm satisfied with for both.

Hope that helps.
