I bought a Fed 2 in the end!

In a previous post I stated that I was looking to get a Berning Robot camera. I've since downgraded this to a Fed 2. The Fed gets a lot of good reports, whereas the Kiev and Leningrad both appear to have quality and reliability problems. Robots cost more than I was prepared to pay, for basically a whim!

I've got an out-of-date Fuji Velvia 100 to put through it, when I receive the camera. Does anyone have any recommendations for getting the film processed?

Jim

I assume the first roll is to test for light leaks etc, so in your shoes, being a tester using out of date film, I'd find the cheapest lab on the net.

What lens or lenses are you planning to use?

It's coming with an Industar 26M.

My first camera was a Zenit, that I bought new in the mid 60s. I have fond memories of it and wish I still had it. I've never had a rangefinder camera though.

Ah, a Zenit - made from tank remnants from the 2nd WW, capable of knocking 6" nails in wood!

When it arrives you should check the near and distant focusing by taking a few shots. Even modern RF cameras straight out of the box can be out of cal. Either the camera, lens or both. Also, be aware of focus shift with change in aperture, although this isn't a disease of RFs exclusively, it can happen with any MF system I believe.

I'd go for somewhere cheap and nasty for your first trial run. All your doing is seeing whether the camera leaks light, and focuses properly at both ends of the scale, and imbetween. Especially so since you're using out of date film (but depends how out of date of course).

I'll put in a word for Salisbury Photo Centre - http://www.salisburyphotocentre.co.uk/ . Small independent outfit, Ian the boss has extensive experience working in Fuji labs. They have always done a grand job for me.

Yeah it is Agfa Vista plus and you pay the same whether you get a 24 or 36 roll and geuss how much that is?

Some people sacrifice a roll for check how well cameras transport film.

Also Asda can be cheap for film processing and scan to CD in some larger stores.

I can thoroughly recomend this forum for all things film:
