Olympus have patented two new zoom lenses.

According to 4/3 Rumors, Olympus have patented designs for two new MFT zoom lenses, these being:

300-500 mm f2.8-f4.0

200-300 mm f2.8-f4.0

Link: http://www.43rumors.com/olympus-pate...-4-0-mft-lens/

I suspect there would be a lot of interest in both of these lenses.

Would be nice to see - but I shudder to think what they would cost!

Re: Olympus have patented two new zoom lenses.

Indeed. 500mm f/4 would be quite beast.

Re: Olympus have patented two new zoom lenses.

Wouldn't a 150-300mm f/2.8-4 make more sense?

And a 250-500mm f/4-5.6 would be smaller and lighter.

Based upon my use of an old 4/3rds Sigma 70-200mm APO EXII f2.8 with MMF3 and EC14 teleconvertor for low level military aviation, I'd tend to agree with the ideal of a 150-300mm f2.8 Pro lens. For my type of use a 600mm equivalent is very useful, plus the ability to zoom back out as the subject approaches is essential. But beyond 600mm range for most of my shots, heat haze and distortion tends to become an important limiting factor in the quality of the post edited photograph.
So to have the logical missing link of a high quality 150-300mm Pro lens would be my ideal .... please!
Regards
Chris

Yes it would, especially if it took the 1.4x TC.

A good compromise in portability and speed... and hopefully price (although will still be a mite expesnsive).
