Just aquired a OM1-n with Zuiko 50mm, f1.8 lens

As title really. My daughter was given this camera a few years back and has only just surfaced when we had a clear out a few days ago.
As in the title, its an Olympus OM1-n with 50mm f.1.8 Zuiko lens and leather case. Its in really clean condition with only a few scratches on the painted parts and thats about it, everything else looks virtually brand new, the case is showing hardly any signs of wear and tear. Obviously the battery/s is/are dead and I've heard of an availability issue with these batteries (you can't get them anymore apparently).
So...can anyone here give any info regarding this camera/lens, where I could possibly pass it on to someone who would appreciate/use it, etc.
Thanks for any info.

It's fully manual so you don't need batteries. Sunny 16... film is forgiving.

Is she a teenager? Nice camera by the way; as were all the OMs.

I have an OM1 too, but rarely use it to take photographs. It sure looks handsome though!

The lens focus rings are always lovely and smooth, and the shutter sound of the OM-2SP is gorgeous. I was very pleased to find on my recently purchased m.Zuiko 30mm macro that the focus ring on that has almost as nice a feel.

A little Google should find lots of information about adapters that take a modern 1.5V battery and reduce the voltage to 1.3V

Re: Just aquired a OM1-n with Zuiko 50mm, f1.8 lens

Have just read this thread and it would appear your problem sounds very similar to the one I had in the 90's when looking to replace a coin type cell battery - rated at 1.3v - for my Miranda Gt film camera from the 60's. There was a replacement type cell battery rated at 1.35v which worked.

It was a Wein named variety but looking them up now on Amazon, https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...+1.35v+battery
they are quite expensive @ 8 - 9. That's the bad news...

Here's the good news. A link to another type, at 1.5v costs just under 2 with free P&P... may be worth a try? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Energizer-E...07J7YYGEP1C14C

Another option is to use hearing aid batteries? https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgu...BogQ9QEIjgEwAA

You may need an adapter due to size, the voltage is 1.4v @ maximum once opened to allow the maximum power to build up.

Hope this helps?

Re: Just aquired a OM1-n with Zuiko 50mm, f1.8 lens

The Wein Air Battery works fine in my Pen F, having the required 1.3v output.
Circuit is calibrated at the stated voltage, and not at 1.5v.
Go for it.

Re: Just aquired a OM1-n with Zuiko 50mm, f1.8 lens

Have just unearthed my Miranda and found I'd removed the battery = dead. However have re-sourced a replacement off of the ebay web-site for under 5. You can search through the blurb on the various sellers offers for an OM1 replacement rated voltage @ 1.35v? etc., to ensure you get the correct replacement. http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/1-35v-battery

One seller also supplies a packer ring for certain flash units if they are required for free - just ask. It's all in the blurb.

Re: Just aquired a OM1-n with Zuiko 50mm, f1.8 lens

Whenever this topic comes up on film photography fourms the general consensus seems to be that whilst Wein Cells will work, they are relatively expensive and don't last very long. Most people seem to prefer an MR-9 adapter which allows you to use cheap 1.4v hearing aid batteries. I have one in my 35DC and it works great:

Indeed. These cameras were originally designed for mercury cells, which have been banned for obvious reasons.

I believe the adaptor is simply a pair of germanium diodes connected in series. The forward voltage of a germanium diode is about 0.1 Volt, so a pair in series neatly reduces the terminal voltage to the 1.3 Volts required. The current is virtually nothing (just a few A), so germanium detector diodes work just fine.
