EM1 mk2 software wish

I was thinking the last time I was out doing landscape wouldn’t it be nice to be able to bracket exposures and focus at the same time. Bracketing the five exposers with different focus points? Is there a current workaround? Also each time you bracket at the moment the camera can put them in a folder? Again can this be done at the moment or is it a lot of faffing about.
Kind regards Mike

Have you considered using Hyperfocal distance techniques?

Re: EM1 mk2 software wish

Hi Graham I don’t have a problem with focusing per say. I have done a couple of bracketing shots ie the in camera 5 shots then done 3 shots focusing near /middle / far. And blended 8 images it’s a lot of faffing about, especially in post sorting them out. As for hyper focal I watched a utube with Thomas Heaton and hyper focal wasn’t that good, he also did what I do which is too focus approx a third into the scene which was better. It’s not that hard to do, I use The ev grid.
Obviously blending can’t work with all types of shots.
Kind regards mike. Ps just noticed this is not in the em1mk2 section?

Re: EM1 mk2 software wish

Moved!

Considering the extra DoF that we get with MFT systems, the wider fov that is used for landscape, I'm surprised that hyperfocal will not do what you want.

A 12mm lens at f/4.5 when focused at 7ft will give you a sharp image from 5ft out to infinity... Far away subjects are often unclear due to atmospherics anyway.

Worth trying out a DoF calculator and on a good clear day try both methods and see just how good a single hyperfocal shot is compared to the methods you use.

I'd love to see the results.

Re: EM1 mk2 software wish

Hi Graham, I donít think I want to look up a focal distance guide every time I change Fstop or change settings. As I said check out the Thomas Heaton video at
https://youtu.be/JA_ohOD9ypU
Itís quite interesting although not Scientific.
What would be your ideal/helpful software upgrade from Olympus for your camera?
Kind regards Mike.

I envisage a hyperfocal calculation could be built into the system and displayed as part of the focus peaking.

My wish has always been for multi-spot metering as we had on the OM3/4 and the C8080WZ It was useful, and I used it a fair bit to get the lighting ratios I wanted.

Re: EM1 mk2 software wish

Not related to your original suggestion, but I raised a request last year:

http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=45135

Basically I want to be able to keep the rear screen dark without turning it to face the body - explanation and justification in the linked post. This suggestion got a pretty lukewarm response here, as you can see on the thread. I raised it as a question with Oly support to see if there was some combination of settings that I was missing, they confirmed that it can't be done at the moment and said they would consider it for a firmware update. So I have fingers crossed that when the long-awaited update arrives, it will be in there

John

Re: EM1 mk2 software wish

This sounds like the old Depth mode that Canon used to provide on their EOS 10 film camera. As I remember it, you could focus on the nearest point that you wanted to be sharp, and then the furthest, and the camera worked out the required aperture for the lens you were using, and set the shutter speed to give the correct exposure.

Very unlikely, as the MOV format gives a higher quality result.
MOV is easily converted to MP4 when needed. I suggest VidCoder as an easy and reliable option (it has Handbrake built in).
