Canon join the party

Depending on the details of the actual release kit, there are some interesting specs here:

Re: Canon join the party

Yes, that's true up to a point, although in a crowded market like the 'proper' camera one it risks wasting resources on developing daft, trendy 'technical innovations' (and just sending otherwise good companies to the wall). You of all people must have some sympathy with that, Steve!

Still, the claim of focusing to -6 EV would be really nice, if borne out in practice. It could become a perfect night street photography tool, for example.

The lowest claimed by standard bodies is I think -4 for several by Panasonic (indeed, the GM1 is amazing at low-light focus), while even the Sony A7S and Sii only go to -3 as I recall.

Re: Canon join the party

Mark, I'm more interested in turning out half decent images than I am about 'gear'.

The difference between -3 (away from city lights under full moon) and -4 (the same, but remove half the moon) could be of interest as I've just recently got myself a copy of 'Night Photography' by Andrew Sanderson (recommend it by the way).

Unfortunately my sympathy has no benefit; companies have to be aware of market conditions and be willing to adapt as they see fit. We see this in retail so often, for many reasons. But the common denominator is fairly basic: ignoring the needs and wishes of the customer.

Re: Canon join the party

Far from it, and as an erstwhile Canon fanboy I’ve no interest at all, which has surprised me. Save a few grams here, slightly smaller body there, still got to lug all those wonderful but heavy pieces of white glass everywhere. I’m quite happily settled in M43 land, until it all goes down the tubes in the search for more consumer money with the latest and greatest!

Interesting read Barr1e. I did notice he had Olympus on the end of his list near the end of the article. Wonder if he knows something we don't or was just teasing
