Re: Panasonic to announce their first Full Frame Camera

For me, and the increasing age argument, it’s a case of I don’t really care what happens providing the size doesn’t creep back up to ‘standard’ DSLR size.
All the time a big corporate company can keep selling new kit then they will do whatever it takes to keep that bottom line healthy. To expect them to have any loyalty to past customers is a bit niave in today’s world. I certainly couldn’t justify buying a new FF body, especially if it meant going back to the size and weight of recent DSLR and lenses. That would be the point Olympus lost a recent convert to their marque.

Some will say “size matters” while others advocate “it’s what you do with it” that’s important.

I think we can guess the attributes of those who say what!

I’ve you’ve got a FF you’re going to say size matters and if you’ve only got a small one you’ll be the one saying ‘it’s what you do with it’

Re: Panasonic to announce their first Full Frame Camera

Personally, I wouldn't want to see Olympus go FF if it meant that m4/3rds was going to take a back seat or, worse, get dropped.

The big attraction for me for the m4/3rds system is the compact size and price/size of the long lenses. I use my EM-1s for underwater work and the compact size means a small, compact, lightweight rig for flights and travel and manoeuvrability underwater. The 300m f/4, 40-150mm & MC-14 are superb for wildlife - try getting a 600mm FF lens for around 2 grand!

My FF camera gear is great for my landscape work and although very heavy and bulky it suits me well. When it comes to light, portable gear and long lenses however Olympus rules. Different systems for different applications.

Ooh, you could be the man I need to talk to about getting the best from my EM5-2 underwater then. Used with the cheapo 9-18 f4-5.6, Oly housing and a Zen dome to photograph whales (minimal success so far I’m afraid)

Micro Four Thirds is a successful and very well-established system. They aren't going to close it. It's the most successful and established mirrorless system out there!

Re: Panasonic to announce their first Full Frame Camera

What would you wish to see on the new FF Panasonic?

What about voice recognition:
"Lumi dear, give me 1/125 at f8 in the M setting of the SPAM menu"

"Yes, Dear David, I've set that for you"

Massive benefits:
Goodby to all those buttons, leaving just two; the on-off and the shutter release.

Nice idea Steve - but I'd prefer the ESP interface. It avoids the embarrassment of being contradicted in public by your camera!

Yeah, but...

If the thoughts are literally interpreted * you'll end up with no photos on the card. Lumi dear will have deleted the lot.

* Not you personally, Paul.

What about finger print recognition, like on mobile phones? (Perhaps it's been done already.)

Why? What’s it bringing to the party?
Or were you thinking a different finger print triggers a different set of customiseable options?

I wish GPS had become standard in camera, instead it seems to be fading from use.

Re: Panasonic to announce their first Full Frame Camera

For GPS to be accurate (as in SatNavs) the pointer has to be restricted by tracks or roads on the digital maps. Standalone GPS devices can get distracted buildings and other signal interference such that the track of the journey can be recorded as a zigzag rather than a straight line.

That's a good idea, but only 10 options...

Voice recognition on the other hand could have massive benefits. Imagine the conversation, somewhat as follows:

"Lumi Dear, I remember reading somewhere the ability to set focus priority on the eye that is winking, but can't remember the setting"

"Oh David, I hope you said 'winking' and not something entirely different. Assuming it's 'winking', I've set that for you. For future reference it's in menu x, sub menu y, sub-sub menu z, set cog a to yes and select sub-menu w for 'winking'."

Re: Panasonic to announce their first Full Frame Camera

I’ve been more than happy with the GPS on my Canon DSLR, my Panny waterproof compact and phone photos, miss it on my EM1-2s and can’t be bothered with faffing about syncing with the phone in my pocket. Tracking a journey has been less of a concern than locations where a particular picture was taken. Saying that, if I did want a log of a journey I’d look more to my phone which would probably be about my person more than a camera might.
