I was actually thinking how green everything has quickly become since the end of our very hot weather - the grass and the scrub land near us has turned from looking rather burnt to lush green again. Some trees still appear distressed though.

Sorry - that was not this year.. it was meant as a response to the comment that native woodlands don't have the same colours.. and inspiration for when we have our meeting

Regards
Andy

Re: Autumn colours

Well, Westonbirt is a safe bet and it is right on my doorstep but lacks somewhat that natural woodlands image. A bit too "organised" perhaps. Also right on my doorstep is Savernake Forest that might be a possible contender. A "proper" forest

Edit: For dates I would suggest around 2 and 3 week of October.

Re: Autumn colours

Happy to come if it works with the diary: my wife’s having her other knee replaced in October so that might limit time/distance I could travel.

Re: Autumn colours

There is hillier aubortoreum in Winchester? I am sticking my neck out here but I believe Autumn could be the best we have had for some years brought on by the dry summer and all we need is a early cold snap.
Kind regards mike

It's about 500 miles too far north for me - or rather I'm 500 miles too far south!

Haven't been to Glen Affric for many years, doubt I'll go again now.

Here's a couple taken on my last visit, around 15 years ago, using Velvia film in a Kowa 66.

Re: Autumn colours

I'd be up for somewhere within a reasonable drive from South Wales. Hopefully Andy will let me know if anything comes off, just in case I don't see it on here in time.

Don't know how you are going to rationalise all the options Ian but I'll definitely try and attend a meet if I can.

Re: Autumn colours

Waterfall Country at Pontneddfechan, South Wales is superb this time of year and worthy of consideration. This photo was taken at the top waterfall (Sgwd Ddwli). I'll be there sometime mid October depending on the weather and colours.

Re: Autumn colours

Clumber is nearest for me.

As a matter of curiosity, is the National Arboretum (Alrewas) a contender ? There is plenty to photograph there.

Great shots John, I recognise the fallen pine 'bridge' from the path to the riverside, it is no longer upright as in your picture.
