Olympus E5 LCD replacement
I've been a member for many years but this is my first posting so my apologies if I'm doing anything incorrectly.
The rear LCD screen of my E5 has developed a black area about 10 x 8mm near one corner and it seems that there is a fault with the screen. Contact with Luton Cameras has confirmed that the part is no longer available. However, I've sourced a screen in the States which is advertised as genuine Olympus, sealed packaging and brand new. My question is this, does anyone have any experience of disassembling/replacing the rear screen on the E5 which they are willing to share with me. I can't find anything online in the way of a service/repair manual for the E5. Cheers ![]() |

Re: Olympus E5 LCD replacement
Maybe Luton Cameras would be happy to fit your part for you if you have problems doing it yourself. Worth asking.

Re: Olympus E5 LCD replacement
I'm pretty confident in tackling the job but am wondering if anyone knows whether the LCD casing can be taken apart without having to remove major parts of the camera body. Otherwise your suggestion may turn out to be a good one. Thanks

Re: Olympus E5 LCD replacement
I'm guessing that as the screen is articulated the ribbon connection is likely to be at the back of the LCD screen. Fingers crossed. As for previous posts (forgotten, it seems) I must admit to my grey cells diminishing rapidly these days!

Re: Olympus E5 LCD replacement
Good luck Graham, it sounds like a tricky job to me. Actually you might find Luton Cameras would give you some advice over the phone if you asked them nicely as they really are enthusiasts as well as running a business. I had a lens cleaned by them and when I dropped it off got talking about how difficult it was to find a P&S for my wife with an OVF to replace her old Olympus C40Z that had died. At which point I was told they had an old C40Z in the workshop that had been there for ages that I could have if I wanted for free. Unfortunately when he dug it out it wouldn't work either however nice thought. Anyway I had the cleaned lens posted back to me and when it arrived so did another boxed C40Z that looked brand new and worked perfectly at no charge! When I spoke to them on the phone he said well we found it in the store and thought you could use it. Hence my comment, if they can help you I'm sure they would. They will certainly get any non warranty repair business I need to have done in the future.

Re: Olympus E5 LCD replacement
I would agree with Phill D's advice.
If I am not mistaken, the E5 is articulated screen unlike the one in John's post, it's an articulated screen. |

Re: Olympus E5 LCD replacement
I used Luton Cameras many years ago when I had my OM4 serviced. I agree with you about their helpfulness. I'll wait for the LCD screen to arrive and see how things look. thanks for your help everyone.

Re: Olympus E5 LCD replacement
The E-3 is a very similar camera so this might be useful:

When I carried out the repair described in the post, I can't remember how easy it looked to replace the screen itself. Jim |
