Recommended Olympus reading?

Good day to all. Can anyone please recommend a handbook, not the manual, available as a download for my mini iPad, on how to master the OMD EM1? Thank you very much.

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

Thank you very much Andy. I read in one of the posts here how a member was on the verge of giving up with his OMD camera until he came across the above publication for the E-M1. He called it his bible and he said it saved him. I was not able to find any other views on the forum about it. Thank you again for the link, most helpful.

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

Hi Phil,

I can recommend them. You can't really lose:

"Money-Back Guarantee Okay, here's the details on the 'risk-free' part. Buy the .pdf format and plow through it for two weeks. If you don't think this book offers the clearest explanations, if you didn't end up learning anything new, or it is not the single best value in terms of dollars-per-knowledge ratio, just send Gary an email and he'll personally refund your purchase price."

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

Anyone know how similar the Pen-F is to the E-M1 mkII? I'm guessing "very" but there are enough differences between my Pen-F and my E-M5 mkI to make it a bit frustrating. If Friedman's book throws some light into the darker corners of the Pen-F it might be worth the investment!

Robin Wong and Pen-F blog, part 1 and part 2. He says he is an Olympus employee. Any use?

I left Nikon last August and went over to Olympus. Advice from the gurus here, suggested I start with the OMD EM1 Mark 1, learn and practice with it first. Then if I like the set up Olympus offers, sell the Mark 1 and then upgrade....I am still learning

Thanks Phil, a very comprehensive review as would be expected from Robin, but I'm looking more for a "how to do it" approach. The live time and live composite modes are interesting but the manual's a bit light on how to get the best out of them.

These might help:

https://www.hireacamera.com/en-gb/bl...des-explained/

https://camerajabber.com/how-to-use-...omposite-mode/

https://www.olympuspassion.com/2017/...-om-d-cameras/

The Friedman EM1 Mk2 book has about 10 pages on these modes.

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

I haven't seen the Friedman book before. I have Young & Johnson's book on E-M5 II (the E-M1 version is here https://rockynook.com/shop/photograp...pus-om-d-e-m1/ ) and Busch's book on E-M1 classic ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/David-Busch.../dp/1305106628 ) .

Both are good (and far better than the manual) but neither is perfect or comprehensive, and both show signs of "cut and paste" of text from similar cameras. However, for someone like me with 60-year old eyes, the screenshots in Young & Johnson are too small to see. It might be better in the pdf version.

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

I am unimpressed with Busch's book on the E-M5 MkI to be honest, it contains very little that isn't in the manual, and quite a lot of cut-and-paste generic material. On that basis I wouldn't buy another of his books.
