A little bit of light painting

First time I've tried this and thanks to the guys at the Beaurepaire Camera Club in Belper I was able to have a go last night. It was great fun, will definitely have to have a go at making some gear myself. Here are a few of the shots.

Re: A little bit of light painting

They're all interesting and technically well made.
I particularly like the final one as there's a story to the image - very good!

Re: A little bit of light painting

Rather than just some random light painting it looks like you have put some considerable thought into the whole composition of each photo to produce some outstanding work. The last one is truly marvellous.

Re: A little bit of light painting

I think you give me more credit than I deserve to be honest OM. Most of the hard work was done by the guy who set up the session, made the lights and worked out the ideas at home in the preceding evenings. Plus the loyal assistant who tirelessly helped swing the gear around and stand in interesting poses. All I had to do was chose a viewpoint and point the camera whilst watching a blank screen, that was until I tried out live time which worked a treat. The slowness of my usually speedy camera was a surprise though, it seemed to take ages writing to the card and noise reduction was a real pain doubling all the exposures. The DSLR users were having a much better and speedier time. I missed a lot of shots just waiting for the camera to sort itself out. I need to try more of this and work out the best way of working to see if the slowness of operation is normal or just me not having the settings right.

Re: A little bit of light painting

I'm imagining someone watching a group of grown up fellas, dancing around with lights going everywhere...…..What is a male witch called??????????

Some things in life have to be done alone. Think I have just found another.....

Only joking...………….

I found the same problem doing the torch shots on Stanage Edge last week Phill, after a couple of goes I just switched it off, and it didn’t seem to be to any detriment on the images! It’s back on now for my usual stuff though, as I have all the time in the world normally!

Re: A little bit of light painting

You are right Mark from some of the comments from passers by it certainly counted as comedy entertainment.
Chris i'll have to have a look at the noise reduction function. Strange that turning it off on low light exposures didn't have any effect

Re: A little bit of light painting

If we’re talking about the same function for long exposures I believe it is more about fixing ‘hot’ pixels rather than real noise? I could be completely wrong though!

Re: A little bit of light painting

Yes, it just does a "blank" run and subtracts the results. With so much light in the picture anyway I doubt you would notice the odd hot pixel.
