And to add to my recent rant about scientists reclassifying species. The Hooded Crow and Carrion Crow were considered to be the same species until 2002 when study/research caused them to be reclassified as separate species. And now one of the Hooded Crow subspecies could be reclassified as a separate species.

That is a terrific shot of a great looking bird Alf. It is good to see that it was taken with the 75-300 II, a very underrated lens.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

There are still quite a few Pintails overwintering locally, so I thought I would take a few shots of these elegant ducks before they move on for the summer.

E-M1, 50-200 SWD and EC-14.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

On a bright day last week Anne and I decided a little trip in to Buckinghamshire might result in seeing Red Kite soaring high. We were rewarded in taking the birds enjoying the conditions along with a Kestrel motoring at speed and a couple of Buzzards.

Three from the day

Olympus OM-D EM-1 mk2 + Olympus 40-150 lens with 1.4 converter - A.mode - various settings

and finally the biggest disappointment of all

Eilat 2017 by mack100, on Flickr

Little green bee eater.
on the last but one day I saw a Steppe Buzzard flying low as I drove away from the reserve. By the time I'd got my camera out it had gone and I was determined not to repeat the same mistake.
On the last day in exactly the same spot I saw a pair of these beautiful Bee eaters perched by the side of the road. Where was my camera? In the boot this time
By the time I'd got it out the pair had flown the other side of the wadi so all I got was this poor record shot.
Will I ever learn?

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Just spotted these two visitors in the field next door. The light was very poor and this is a big crop.

I am no duck expert can someone tell me what kind they are.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Mandarin Ducks are native to East Asia and are now a long-established feral breeder in the UK.
