Oly goes caving

Hi Folk

As I use a caving pic as my avatar I thought it was about time I showd you some of the work.

These are from today with absolutely no PP except resizing for the web.

They are noting special in caving terms being simple shots with a single FL36 on a CB05 cord taken on my E500 with the 17.5 - 45 Kit lens which I am now happy to take underground now I've got my E510 and some more lenses.

What may look like hot pixels are flash off dust and water drops - like I said I've not PP'd these at all - I thought you may like to see what you can get OOTB

All the pictures are in Ogof Fynnon Ddu (Cave of the Black Spring) in South Wales

Saloubrious Passage

Formations in Swamp Creek

The Corkscrew

The Camera was carried in in my Peli box with foam protection and 4 beer towels to wipe my hands every time before using it

Regards
Andy

Re: Oly goes caving

Very good pictures.

Do you get an adrenalin rush before, during or after each descent? Although I would imagine you are quite practised now.

At last Andy... we get to see some of your work other than your avatar...

You sure do get to see some sights many of us will never manage... me for one!! You'd never, and I repeat NEVER get me into a cave such as those. You are one brave chap Andy...

Great shots... more more more...
Thanks for posting the images.

Nice pics - that second reminds me of the innards of one of those aliens from the famous Aliens saga ....

Re: Oly goes caving

Thanks for the kind words

I'm not brave, just careful and Yes Barr1e after 24 years I guess I know something about what I'm doing so many things don't cause a massive adrenaline rush. When I was Young and foolish I used to treat caves like some form of underground Gym, but now I love the science and am happier to take a few moments to fully understand my surroundings.

I have to admit that these pictures are nothing special in cave photography terms and that I need to upgrade my equipment for mulit flash systems to do better.

If you're interested by the topic at all then look out "To Photograph Darkness" by Chris Howes which is not only the best book on Cave Photography out there, but is also almost THE definitive book on Flash Use in an extreme environment it's still available some places...
Amazon Amazon

Also for a none photographic view of the world of caves and some real "Fine Artists" you can take a look at http://www.issa.org.uk/ and the article I wrote over there http://www.issa.org.uk/html/posing.htm

Regards
Andy
