Tits Nest

Yesterday I was looking out of the bedroom window, and noticed a blue tit exploring the cavity below the new (Yuk) LED street lamp.

Thus I got the camera ready in case it returned. No luck there, but I took photo with one of my zoom/telephoto lenses.

Today I took virtually the same phot with the other lens...

One was the Panasonic 100-400mm, and the other was the Zuiko 300mm + the 1.4 TC~thus 420mm

Re: Tits Nest

To me the first one looked cleaner with more detail. I have just checked the exif data. Phew, that's a relief.

Re: Tits Nest

Slight surprise for me. Maybe I should have taken the on the same day.....

But the comparison slightly justifies my purchase.....

Re: Tits Nest

OK, how do I check the EXIF data? I downloaded the first pic and the only lens info is 364mm, f/6.3. I assume there's a way of checking via the Gallery but that is, as usual, rather arcane! I guess that 364mm gives it away though as the other one's fixed focal length

Re: Tits Nest

You got it Otto, the Gallery only gives focal length, whereas Flickr will tell you the lens type.....

The 420mm is the major clue. I had to crop one of them slightly to get the images the same size......

Re: Tits Nest

But there's neither Gallery nor direct Flickr links? I don't use Flickr so maybe I'm missing something, though I could scroll through your excellent Photostream till I find them I guess . I downloaded the top one and used "Properties" in Windows Photo Viewer.

Re: Tits Nest

Yes I can't get back to the gallery by clicking on them. Not sure why?? (Is that a bug, or how I have linked them)

I have not put them on Flickr. Maybe this link back to the gallery will help.

Re: Tits Nest

Got them now, thanks . Normally if you copy the code from the gallery page and paste it into your post you'll get the image, and if you click on the image it will link back to the gallery - as below. When you said Flickr would tell me the lens type I took that to mean they were on Flickr!

Re: Tits Nest

I have an Exif Viewer extension which I downloaded for Firefox. If I right click on the image I can choose to view the exif data. It works well, provided the exif data hasn't been removed by the owner of the image.

Open in IrFanView and click Image/Information.

Oh well no harm in asking
If you change your mind before Saturday let me know. Otherwise if there is a good show deal I'll have bought one!

Re: Tits Nest

Wow. There is a significant difference IMHO.
Glad I wasn't tempted.

Re: Tits Nest

Do you really think so Dave? I still find it quite difficult to compare even with these images as the colours are different and the focus point is also different. DoF is also probably a bit different too. I'd expect the Oly lens to have a slightly better resolution as a prime justifying the higher price. I've seen some stunning images from both lenses though so as always I guess it's a case of what is good enough.
