Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

I use OV3 purely for the way the import facility creates folders with the date, or if such folders exist, adds photos to them. Gave up using any of the other features because (1) they were slow, and (b) Olympus not proving any documentation / guidance. I use DXO mainly, and Affinity very occasionally, but I don't do a lot of post-process tinkering.

Sounds like there's no point in my obtaining the replacement product.

I think you will need the new Olympus Workbench after the 31st March 2019 if you want to upgrade your firmware!

I also use OV3 for the import facility only and like it for the way it creates the folders and dates.

I will try the new OW but only when it has been out for a while and problems ironed out. I have copies of OV3 just in case

The thing about Rawtherapee is that you can always get your money back, no matter how long you've had it!

I get tired just thinking about paying Adobe £9 a month!

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

Just installed the 64 bit version on Windows 10 without issues and it looks quite decent. It certainly seems much more user friendly than OV3. Yes, there is a manual!

Good idea. Mine is up to date as it asks to refresh itself when a new version comes out but it is a good idea to have the install zip handy if you need a fresh install. I started with version 1.1.0.3 (so the zip I have) and note that
the latest version is 2.4.1.5 (details taken from the file properties tab).

I will install Olympus Workspace but will wait a bit in case they refresh it in the near future.

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

Just downloaded workspace no problem with win10 64bit ssd, edited one photo using dehaze and clarity ok, got the rotating wheel when I exported it as jpeg to a file, so not perfect but an improvement on ov3, incidentally it found all my orf files on pc including ov3 orfs.

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

For anyone interested, I made a comparison of Olympus Workspace with some other raw converters on some night sky images at http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showpost...&postcount=202

Workspace did a good job but the results show that most of the differences are for pixel-peepers only. The 'fast' converter and AfterShot Pro3 produced the worst results with many more colour artefacts than the others.

I had to disable the default video card selection in to so I could edit in my Win7 laptop.

Disable the default video card selection (untick).

First impressions it's cleaner and quicker than OV3.
I thought (for a laugh) I'd see how the Help had improved.
Tried accessing it and was told I needed to re-run the software update.
Did that and it appeared to shut down OW, install a help file and restart the program.
Now when I click Help in the menus I get a Windows Memory exception.

Some things never change.

I've tried again this morning and now it opens "Olympusworkspace.pdf" in acrobat.
Need to get on with work now so I've not read it yet.

You can skip the registration either for now or permanently.
You may also choose to stop OW from sharing information back to Olympus, either at installation or there's an option under the Help menu.
OV3 didnít come with Help either & needed an update to add it.

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

Installed the 64-bit version without problem on Win7 and it seems to run reasonably fast, though I haven't done much with it (and probably won't).

Oddly, it installed the software in Program Files(x86)... ??

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

Meanwhile, the latest "codec" for viewing ORF files in Windows is dated 2009 and it doesn't work with Win 10. But Olympus spend goodness knows how much on this.
