I was about to enquire which end of the animal they were referring to, but I get the joke now. It come with the second syllable.

On a brighter note it's the winter solstice tomorrow, I can't wait for another 6 months of increasing amounts of daylight (I nearly wrote sunshine, but the two don't necessarily go together).
Yeah, and as I'd made bleedin' obvious in the message referred to in the one objected to by Jax, I was providing a link to what seemed good-quality information that people on here might find useful regardless of whether you were a Leaver or a Remainer.

Happy Christmas.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Under E.U. law Highways England need to carry out an assessment of the impact of new developments on wildlife. There's a proposal for an 'Oxford to Cambridge Expressway' which will make a significant impact on wildlife in the area, and the 'Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust' is seriously concerned:

https://www.bbowt.org.uk/wildlife/na...dge-expressway

Here's a significant extract:

"Highways England failed to commission a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) or a Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) as part of the process of selecting their preferred corridor of land. These are required under European Law for schemes that impact on the environment such as this. This means the true environmental impact has not been properly considered."

So it looks like that in anticipation of us leaving the E.U., Highway England are taking the opportunity to ditch the SEA and HRA regulations protecting our wildlife!

I wonder what other 'inconvenient' E.U. regulations are going to be scrapped or not written into our laws?

With the implication that they weren't often, if at all carried because they're the corrupt E.U.?

Certain member states, and France in particular have a long and undistinguished track record of ignoring EU laws that don't suit them or they don't like.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

The EU countries do have a reputation of saying
"Do as I say, not do as I do"

which does cause one to be annoyed, but perhaps more annoyed that the UK had a reputation of Gold Plating the rules from the EU rather than watering them down so that they were more acceptable. So actually the failing was in the UK and not in the EU.

Not necessarily; but I do sense a certain irony when Europhile remainers complain that the UK plans to ignore EU legislation.

So where's the evidence that E.U. countries systematically ignore E.U. rules? (Daily Mail and Sun fantasies don't count!)

So why stop at environmental laws - why not throw out lots of other E.U. laws such as workers rights, which some employers regard as restrictive?
