Get Out Of Bed, It's A Beautiful Day

I awoke around 7.00am this morning, with my inner alarm clock telling me I was desperate for a pee. Unfortunately it's an alarm that I cannot turn off or ignore and as usual it successfully got me out of bed before too long. I noticed that the moon was bright in the sky and there were large gaps in the clouds, suggesting promise for the rapidly advancing dawn. The question was, would I take the bait or, as usual of late, return to the comfort of my bed and the temporary antidote to reality, sleep. Much to my own surprise, I tentitively opted for the former and almost unwittingly found myself sitting in the car with the engine running. I reasoned with the part of me still voicing objections that having got so far it would be a waste of the effort already expended to turn back at that point.

So off I went, with increasing anticipation of some great light flooding through the breaks in the black clouds that still dominated the sky. Within a mile it was raining again. It eased shortly after arriving at Hatfield Forest but the clouds had closed ranks against the sun and remained steadfast for several hours until the moment I needed to return home for family taxi duty. In fact much of that time was spent sheltering from torrential rain, but I did manage three rather average shots.

The Autumn tints are still in their infancy in the forest but splashes of colour are starting to appear.

The rowing boats that have been a major feature of the lake for the past few years were conspicuous by their absence. I found them later, some distance from the water. Either they had been washed up by a huge flood or, perhaps more plausibly, deliberately removed for repairs or winter storage.

Finally, a rather messy composition but my first fungi shot of the season.

I like the boats, and the trees. Well worth the effort I say.

" ... the temporary antidote to reality, sleep."

Oh yes. Same feelings here, particularly if the weather is lousy and work beckons. And the days getting shorter. And where's my pension. Blah blah blah

Well your auto-motivation in repairing to the wood at that hour on a wet miserable morning obviously paid off, John.
