Make or Break

It's no secret that my photography has been in the doldrums for some time and I can't remember when I last took a picture, apart from a set of a school play about a month ago. With this in mind I'm really looking forward to the Friday evening meet in London, hoping that the company of like-minded photographers will rekindle my enthusiasm and that some of the inspiration of others will rub off on me. I'm also hoping that a new venue, a change from my local scene, might spark some motivation to take pictures. I seem to remember a quote, from Dr Johnson I think, along the lines of "If a man is tired of London he is tired of life," so we'll see. This could be make or break time for me.

Re: Make or Break

Hi John, I am sure that the meet and the profusion of photogenic subjects will inspire you to click away. When Dr Johnson wrote that, there were not 10 million or so people living in London or hundreds of thousands of vehicles clogging the streets. I wonder whether he would write that were he alive now.

I bet that you will be pleased to get back to the peace and quiet of your home in Essex afterwards.

Thanks Bob, that's a good point you make about London then and now!

And that's why we "escaped" to Dorset! Only problem is, I regret we didn't do it 50 years ago when I still had the legs to walk the hills.

Hey John - you and I both! I am sure though, that the fact that you have motivated yourself to go along will provide inspiration enough for you to get some superb shots.

Tell you what... why not start another thread for 'London eGroup Photo requests' - that way the membership here can challenge you further with some ideas that will provoke thought.

Re: Make or Break

Well here in Manc, the weekend weather most definitely hasn't been helping! I'm very much a fair weather photographer and that means blue skies (fluffy white or even dramatic clouds acceptable) and subjects illuminated by that big, yellow, round thing in the sky.

Re: Make or Break

John (Zuiko).
My sincere wish is that you simply enjoy the day. Don't pressurise yourself, just enjoy the good company and the sights and sounds and who knows what good things may follow.

Have a great day.

Great advice, Peter. I'll remember that above all else.

That's a good idea, we have plenty of members from South Wales who can provide lots of ideas if you let them know which area you are visiting. Might be a few of them who could meet up with you. I hope you have a great trip and I look forward to the pictures. :

I've copied and pasted all the ideas I've had suggested onto a single sheet to take with me to London.

Re: Make or Break

Just go and enjoy the company John. I am not able to make it this time, too busy getting ready for the move but once we are settled, I hope to attend a few more meets.
