Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

I got a preview with a camera mag that has a plan in it. It was Digital Camera if you look out for one. It's a bit small though and it needs the list of names to go with it in the rest of the booklet as there are just reference numbers on the map.

Take a screen capture (Home button and Off button at the same time), then email the created image to your main machine and then print it down.

Yes, I've done that, doing it in 4 bits to get a better-sized copy and sellotaping them together! Looks naff, but at least I've been able to mark legibly all the booths I wanted to visit.

BTW there's an interesting discussion going on in the Oly Education Group on FB about how Wex's prices have suddenly shot up on Oly gear over the past few days. Suspicion is that this might be so they can offer some 'attractive' show prices...

Not sure if this also applies to other manufacturers' gear, but anyone planning any significant gear purchases at the show would be well advised to check how the offer price compares against what camerapricebuster.co.uk has listed for the past few weeks. Suggest put that site among your favourites on your phone browser.

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

Booked in (for Monday), bit of a palaver.

I entered the Olympus code for a discount on the ticket price but did not click apply (as I had not selected anything), clciked on the ticket and the show guide (it might have some use), and went on with the rest of the checkout procedure. At the end I found that I did not have my discount so I clicked on the tab to go back to get tickets. The discount code was still there so I clicked apply. But there were no things selected so I once again selected a ticket (this time the discount showed immediately) and a guide and went through the checkout... where I found I had 2 tickets (1 discounted) and 2 guides in my basket. I could delete the non discounted ticket but not 1 of the guides. So I removed both guides and back to the tickets tab to select 1 guide. It didn't like this as I had no ticket so I ordered another ticket which I could delete when I giot to the basket page. So far so good. Then I went to pay and it and after trying to authorise the payment is cane back saying the discount code was not valid! Tried again and it said that my token was expired. I waited a few hours but still no email confirmation of a ticket so I checked my credit card and I had two pending transactions for ticket booking. Back into the ticket ordering but I had no orders on my account. Well, I ordered again and this time things went through smoothly including the email. Now I must wait and see if the two pending transactions will time out (they should if they are not confirmed).

Now about travel. It took over an hour to find the best train route as the trainline site kept routing me through London and making me change Birmingham central. In the end, by consulting a good old fashioned paper map of trainlines, I found an intersection at Watford Junction that served my purposes and gave me only one change to get to Birminham International and no London tube. There was a good train in the morning (arrives 9:30) and one just after 6pm (next one 8pm). Now the bad news, it cost £110 (£80 to get there and £30 to get back). I can do the journey by car for £30 of diesel (add in some wear and tear on the car) and £12 for the car park (by pre-booking) - so I did. The journey time is about the same.

See you all at the Oly stand at 12:00.

Panasonic are also offering free sensor and lens cleaning this year, so bring your Lumix gear on Monday/Tuesday if you have any...

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

Too hectic to make it this year. I had to take my daughter (having a short break from uni before returning for a Masters) to a Butterfly Conservation training event yesterday, and I'm off Poole Harbour for a few days tomorrow.

But if anybody attending notes the dimensions of Oly 150-400 Pro that's supposed to be on display there, I'd be extremely grateful.

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

Itís as big as yer Ďyed, as an old school friend of mine used to say.

Of course that shot is made more impressive by having the hood extended, but it looks like the body of the thing is milled out of solid brass, so I imagine itís going to be weighty and would be entirely unscathed after being used for hammering in nails.

Edging in to the left hand side of those shots is the MC-20, which looks much more interesting...
