Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

I went to a talk by the excellent ex-Sunderland MP Chris Mullin. He pointed out that just before the referendum leaving the EU was #8 in a list of important issues. It's now at the top. So I had a look, after all, MP's are supposed to lie.

May 2016, just before the referendum, the top 2 issues were Immigration and Terrorism. Leaving the EU was NOT in there at all

(note - for me this link only worked once, then they want you to pay)
Source

By 2017, leaving the EU was top. Immigration was still in there.
source (same problem as above)

That tells me that somebody managed to convert Immigration/Terrorism into "Leave the EU".

The daft thing is that we never implemented the options we had under EU rules for controlling EU immigration (here) and non-eu immigration was up to us anyhow.

I had given serious thought to just that. As life, ATM is 99.999% mostly boring, I decided that as 'we are all in it together' not to let others suffer alone.

A trouble shared, is a trouble halved and If I can help somebody as I travel on, then my journey has not been in vain.

Interesting this only happened after Brexit not when we joined the Common Market.

Please explain why ?
Not many of us had, or have, a problem with the idea of the "Common Market".

Re Solar Panels - got 17.827 KW today - if I could get that regularly during the summer I would be pleased.

Actually, I disliked that post. Jealousy is a terrible thing. You must be aligned E - W or verly nearly so. I'm aligned N - S, so get a 50/50 charge throughout the day. With a neighbours tree to one side reaching higher than the house, I'm lucky to get even that in the AM.

The basic problem is: Whether we get the weather, depends on the weather?

Still, as said, every little helps.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

The panels are pointing just a touch west of south but at 22 deg to the horizontal so not perfect.

As a consolation think of all the people that got no solar power today because they did not get panels installed.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

I'm not sure if this is still available?

For those with an interest, a neighbour had their solar panel installation/ commissioning etc., done for free. They benefit from the free generation of power whilst the installation company regain their outlay via the ongoing generated payments. As far as I was made aware, this can only happen if the roofing is aligned E – W.

This could be worth looking into especially as utility company costs keep rising.

I can hear your buzzing now..............

Assume you will get better in the summer with higher sun and warmer temperatures.............

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Generating 2.8 kW at the moment, during the summer we can get over 500 kw in a month, however it is interesting to see how the values generated vary by month sometimes spring months generate more power than "summer ' months.
Re Temperature I read somewhere that the panels get warm when producing power and so become less efficient, so lots of sun on a cold day is probably a good option.

Can I ask what is the expected payback period in years to get savings in electricity charges including income that will cover the initial capital outlay.

Solar panels are directly responsible for the increase in the pigeon population.

The dam things are nesting under next doors panels. They wake me up at increasingly earlier times and crap all over my conservatory.

My shooting skills may well turn away from photography...

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

John is quite correct upto a point. The system was changed about two years or so ago. In my situation I will receive payback over a 20 year period. If worried about return on outlay, then look into the free installation option to see if still available from my previous post.

As an example, my instal in 2014 gave generation payback over 20 years. Due to on-going GOVT changes, this may not hold true on new installations.

You get a generation charge per kWh @ x, plus a % feedback tariff amount @ y, sent back to the grid. Presently, these payments are increased each April by fractions of a penny in both cases.

House roofing orientation also plays a huge impact on generation. IE,. An E / W orientation provides a better aspect as all panels are used over the daily generation process. Roofing angle of the dangle also has an impact. A 20 degree angle may not produce the same generation amounts as one at 30 - 35 degree angle.

Again, my installation is orientated N / S, which results in a lower generation process compared to the E / W aspect of a neighbour.

Most importantly is the weather which controls every aspect required to produce power irrespective of roofing orientation degree angle of roof. Hence my wether / wheather comment.

Try this link https://www.gov.uk/feed-in-tariffs
for more info.

Hope this helps?

@ Graham... Save the £dosh on both gun and ammo. I installed an owl statue to the TV aerial which has worked upto a point... Sodding Jonathon Seagull is the ongoing problem which all stemmed from a meat processing firm now deceased for over 10 years. Unfortunately, Jonathon S***hawk / gull is a protected pest.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Re Solar Power - I have received just under 10k in 5 years plus reducing electricity bill by aprox 30%. My FIT payment increases by cost of living for 25 years from 2011.

John HM is thinking of water based panels, mine are only electrical. Water based panels can extract heat from the atmosphere as long as the temperature is higher the 0 deg K (theoretically)
