Re: Einfinty 40-150mm Pro bargain...

I see that Olympus specifically state that gray / parralel imports are not covered by their warranty.

My concern is that cameras have more to go wrong then lenses and whilst the price is VERY tempting...

Seems odd then that Olympus are willing to agree to an extra 6 months warranty?

Well, route taken................

Log onto Oly website

My account

My products

Add the lens with its serial No.

Oly identify the product correctly

And indicate that if you sign up to their newsletter, you will get that 6 month warranty

Tick that box..................

Simples................

But who knows how they will react if something goes wrong.............

They ask for proof of purchase with repairs so that is when things get interesting! I bet there is something in the warranty Ts & Cs that excludes grey imports or purchases from none recognised dealers?

Re: Einfinty 40-150mm Pro bargain...

Accepted there might be a risk of some sort.

I am relying on the facts that the seller seems to have a reasonable reputation. The Trust Pilot reviews includes someone sending a lens back, apparently with no problem.

I am also relying on the fact that I am buying a "Rolls Royce" lens, Olympus actually, who have a very good build quality, and as its a Pro lens, the build quality is "best".

If I have to pay for a repair, then I am probably still saving money.

At the end of the day, I have bought the lens, it looks good, and feels good. All kinda depends on ones outlook and risk aversion.

Risk is less than buying a 2nd hand lens on Ebay.....

Savings in the region of 300 or so :-)

Heyho lets get on with the photo sessions..............

Re: Einfinty 40-150mm Pro bargain...

Mark, I agree with your sentiments - I've bought all my Oly gear used and saved a fortune, never had any issues or needed a warranty repair.

I have been looking at e-infin as the prices are sooo low but for warranty issues, it's return to them which ( for me, for a camera ) is a little unnerving. Ok, I proabably wouldn't need it but Sod's law dictates...I may still go via hdew or wait as it's not like I need a new body

Re: Einfinty 40-150mm Pro bargain...

MC-1.4 arrived this morning. Well packed with manual and Olympus Warranty card, ripped out of something larger. But for 165, I am happy. (well, relatively, see post re fitting. http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=45716)
