Re: Scilly Isle

A 1000 to get to the Falklands ounds pretty reasonable to me unless it was in 1982 and you were on the V Bomber going to Stanley.

I have had as many calm crossings as rough ones, though have to say the rough ones have been recently...…….

Re: Scilly Isle

The Falkland bit on its own was 1000 each, return. Just the bit from Ushuaia fo Stanley and back, on top of the cost to cross the pond. So total flights bill alone were looking to be in the region of 3-4K.

Re: Scilly Isle

3 to 4k appears to be good value given the locations it was taking you to.

I reckon LHR to PHX return at about 4k is worthwhile (in Business Class) is acceptable.

So you decided to stick to Lyme Regis in Dorset, then!

(This thread has travelled a long way - from the Scilly Isles to The Falklands!)

Kind of, although Ive not been to either in actual fact. Im more likely to reconsider the Falklands in the shorter term and save the Scillies for our dotage. By then Id expect well have become used to being sick!

Re: Scilly Isle

If you want to go to the Falklands and Antarctica - check out the various Hurtigruten cruises - the pro protographers plus other subject specialists give very good support.

Re: Scilly Isle

I'd love to visit South Georgia. Just be dropped off with my camping gear and food, and left to myself for a month or so. I like the feeling of isolation and being alone!

Re: Scilly Isle

Considered Antarctica but the stories of the crossing are enough to put us both off!
We don’t do cruise ships unless the total number of passengers is less than 25, so much as we’d love to do it, I’m afraid The Antarctic is not going to happen. The Falklands is easy were it not for the cost.
South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands would be fantastic but I suspect the hassle of getting there would be too great. We’re already getting fed up of the unpleasant experience that is long haul flights and starting to plan more European jaunts (Brexit permitting!)

I'm amazed by that comment Jim. I would have thought a friendly, gregarious, affable soul like yourself would have relished the company of others.

However, now you've opened up and expressed your deepest emotions, if I were much more wealthy than a Lancashire Mill Girl, I would gladly contribute towards the cost of a one way ticket to South Georgia
