Re: Only Me?

Another E-450 here, bought from Argos in the UK in April or May last year. I got lucky and picked up a 18-180mm ED from a fire salvage store back in November too.

It's the only SLR I've ever owned myself, previously used my father and sisters film Yashica and Zenith cameras. I'm currently on a night school course learning to get the best out of it, but overall I'm very pleased. It cost less than our Nikon Coolpix 4300 and has a heck of a lot more flexibility. A better/faster auto focus system would be an advantage, but I'm nothing resembling a pro, and in practice it's delivered some cracking good photo's in light that critics indicate it shouldn't have. Being on a tight budget, I'm unemployed, the price point was perfect.

Re: Only Me?

Thinking about it, I've probably been using it for photographing what would conventionally be considered the wrong subjects too, motorsport events, and with the wrong lens - 14-42mm kit..... But, I'll post some of the material I managed last year, before starting my current course, in the gallery. Since then I've got my hands on an 18-180mm and a monopod, so this year, armed with those and hopefully more wisdom and understanding of composition, I'm hoping to achieve rather more.

It is quite suprising what can be achieved with the kit lenses.

All taken using the 40-150 kit lens.

I am well pleased with my combo, but would really like a 70-300 or a BIGMA.

The 40-150mm is a lovely lens, as long as you have good light the images look fantastic.

I am interested in that lens as a walk about lens. But the 70-300mm is next on my list. I would like it for May and the Triumph at the Prescott speed hill climb

Re: Only Me?

I have the 40-150mm kit lens and in good light you really can't fault it.

I picked up mine new, at less than half price at a reputable fire salvage company I drop into now and again, for just this reason - random bargains. Complete inc. box and warranty cards. I've read some fairly smelly reviews of it, but..... as has been pointed out above with the kit 40-150, it is capable of really good results. Auto focus can be a bit sloppy in low light, quelle surprise.....Mk 1 eyeball carries the day.
I've read complaints regarding barrel distortion too, but I haven't noticed it yet. For the money it has really increased the reach of my photographs, but cost me a very modest amount. I'm hoping to christen it earnest on Saturday at Oulton Park.... Few obstructions without compromising your safety if you know where to stand, and all with a regular punters ticket.....

Ross - don't put us in mid-winter just yet - not even mid-autumn for another two weeks! 25 degrees here in Canberra today and and a beautiful clear sky.

Re: Only Me?

Only just spotted this thread love that smoky car shot. Well done. The 70-300 is a great lens for the price but a bit frustrating at times when it hunts for focus.

Cheers,
With apologies for the delay - My laptop got wiped out in the interim by some Bahraini hackers efforts and I lost my log in credentials, only just figured them out....... The 18-180mm.... I bought it from a company in Birmingham called International Stock. They buy fire salvage and punt it out to the public. Of course they have a lot of dross on the shelves, and you can't predict if they'll have anything of any good on any given day. I just make sure I wander in and out of them and a couple of their pawnbroker neighbours on a regular basis.

I spotted the lens back in November and realised I wanted it pronto.....Ran home for camera and asked to test it in store - no problem. As it happened it was complete with warranty card, new and unused.
